PWC Insurance - questions and observations...

Looking to insure 2 skis and found that my standard insurance company, Farmer's, is insanely expensive compared to other options like BoatUS and SkiSafe. Who do you guys use? Any claims horror stories?

The main difference I found between SkiSafe and BoatUS is that one covers losses due to mechanical failure or wear and tear (SkiSafe) and the other (BoatUS) does not. This means that if your bailer hose falls off and sinks your ski (or better yet your carbon seal fails), one company will pay for the loss and the other won't. Very important.

Opinions?

I have my boat/ski insurance with Seaworthy, I can't say if the insurance is good or not, never had a claim, but their rates are very good, it's a GEICO company.

I've got progressive and it's stupid cheap for one ski. I have pretty much everything covered with a $250 deductible and it cost me $175 a year. Had one claim so far and it was painless. They sent an adjuster out to the shop and cut them a check for the repairs on the spot. No hassle at all.

I have Geico/Seaworthy and pay $220 or so a year. I just got a quote from Progressive after seeing this and they threw $460 at me... no thanks. :leaving:

Geico was the cheapest for me, ~$250/yr. And I did check my policy covers sinking due to wear and tear/mechanical failure. I can't imagine why that wouldn't be covered. Boat US was much more expensive for me.

How can all of u guys with geico (seaworthy) be so cheap I'm using them and it's 100 bucks a month for 2 2014 GTX limited 260 is and the dual triton trailer. It covers if skis r stolen or crashed or damaged within first 4 yrs they will cut me a check for 40000. It also covers ALL drivers of ski and not just ppl on policy. If after 4 yrs ski is stolen I get back the current value of skis and my deductible is 100

220 a yr is still cheap. Does it cover if it's stolen?? Is ur trailer cover too??

Anyone with experience with skisafe? I got a quote from them for about $225. Geico was $280 and I am waiting a call back from my state farm agent.

I'm interested in knowing if insurance cover the craft being stolen while in the water or while parked in my backyard.

Also in Massachusetts (insurance is a bit different than other states) the trailer would go through your vehicle insurance.. almost like a rental car you current vehicle insurance policy automatically covers you for it.

Update, well you really don't know how good an insurance company is until you have a claim. I've had Geico for many years, auto, home owner's and watercraft (Seaworthy) and just had my first claim. I am delighted to say I am extremely happy with both the service and the prompt payment. I took my Jeep to a Geico Service center, the claims adjuster made an estimate and wrote a check on the spot and I took the Jeep to my choice of body shops. So at least in my experience I would give Geico an A++, and no I don't work for the company.

My State Farm agent just quoted me $60 a year for ski and trailer. Full coverage, only thing they don't cover is loss due to mechanical failure. They said that's a maintenance issue.

$60 freaking dollars? I'd be reading the fine print very closely and if good jumping all over that.

I guess depending on the fine print. That sounds more like Canadian insurance prices though. I pay
$350 per season for the 2004 and it doesn't cover from Nov 1 to April 1!! What a rip! Has $1 mil liability though
and good fine print.

you might be right, but i'd suggest double checking that fact,,, In Forida we automatically have trailer liability, but NOT physical damage to the trailer itself, so, say, if the trailer gets uhoooked and rolls into somebody, you've got liability there, but the trailer itself, if not seperately listed, is not covered.

My insurance runs about $70.00 per ski, but let me explain, first it's a rider on my boat policy, and second since the ski's are older, mid 90's I only carry liability and comprehensive.

That is very interesting, I would have thought if it sinks you're covered, regardless of why it sank.....makes me wonder about my policy.

In my experience boat insurance is cheap through progressive and expensive through US Boat. Never had a claim on a watercraft.

quite honestly, if I owned a seadoo (Carbon Seal !) I'm not so quite sure I'd be satisfied with a policy that has a mechanical failure limitation, it takes a very short period of time to sink.

FWIW, i've never really read my policy, and I'm in the business.

I went with SkiSafe, I have coverage for ONLY during the "Season". I pick the season time frame. Why pay for something if you are not going to be using it. I have the option to extend my "off-season" coverage when I need to.

The only complaints I found online about ski safe were two guys that wrecked their boats during the layup period witch the owner picks!

My policy covers anywhere it's stolen. So let's say I park it in front of my house someone come tow trailer away with skis on it they cut me a 40000 check. I somehow forget the plug in back of ski and 1 ski sink they cut me a 18500 check each ski is 18500 and trailer is 3000 that's how I insured amount breakdown

My progressive policy ($297 per year) covers stolen. Both Ski and Trailer. Also covers sinking. Will not cover mechanical failure. My recent claim for front end damage was handled superbly by them. Both claims adjuster and claims rep was awesome. Very professional and fast. Kept in touch through the process. I also have my ATV and 3 cars insured with them.
