pump impeller

the impeller is attached to the pump by the impeller pump shaft now is that screwed into the back of the impeller and thats whats holding it in the pump? also how does the driveshaft attach to the to the impeller i know it has rubber boots on each end so iam thinking it just sits in the impeller freely and it is held in place by the pressure of the pump being bolted onto the hull?
