Changing oil in pump. Pump is not in ski. When I put the anti rattle cone back on it's hard to turn by hand. My other pump in the floor doesn't have near that resistance. Just seems like way too much. I'm scared the starters not going to turn it over. Had that happen with a really tight wear ring once. Pump spins freely with the cone off or just barely snugged on. How much resistance is too much? Something just doesn't seem right. Enough for me to waste a oil change!

Are we talking pump disassembly or just looking in the back of it? From what I can see the bearing looks centered. Have about 1/8 inch of movement in and out.

If you didn’t remove the impeller the thrust bearing isn’t the issue and can’t get out of position.

If it’s the newer pump it has a pusher in the cone that’s spring loaded, you have to depress it to get the pump cone on or it will bind.

Don't know if you can tell if this is a newer pump or Not by pictures. It dose have The Pusher and spring inside the cone. Something else I realized when I was bolting the cone on. I had it sitting face down on a little bucket that just rested on the impeller. That was pushing everything back towards the cone when trying to bolt it on. This time I bolted it together without it resting on the impeller. It's like it should be now spinning freely. Very little backlash and Springs back towards the hall.
