The clearance looks about right but the impeller isn't real pretty. I had it out and dremeled the burrs off of the edges. I thought I could salvage it?? Also, I did notice when I removed the impeller originally it was a mother you know what to remove. I broke my vise removing it. Also, when re-installing it, it was again immediately tight and took all the muscle I could give it just to get it on the shaft. While doing that I did notice that there was some play front to back between the impeller and the housing it sits in. I just could not get it any tighter and though maybe it was meant to be that way like perhaps the shaft was tapered or something?? Of course I don't know the history and am not even sure if the impeller is meant for that shaft. It is a skat trak aftermarket impeller which is all I know. Unfortunately I did not write down the pitch info. that was stamped into it before re-installing.
Is it normal for the impeller to be incredibly tight right off the bat during installation?
Is it normal for the impeller to have the front to back play on the shaft? I am guessing around 1/2" or maybe even 5/8". The thrust was good before impeller removal but I don't remember if there was play in it originally.
Sorry this is so wordy.
Thanks again!
