Hi!

Newbie with jet boat, from sweden, maybe some bad english, hehe... I have a problem with my islandia year model 2001. Its has the 250 DFi engine installed.
Steering at low speed works OK, left - right, i can se the angle of the jetbeam...But in higher speed it work fine steering to left but when I wants to steer to right, its like it never turn the beam even. Not the slinglest turning right. in one occasion I had to put reverse and stop the boat from crash into land. Its dangerous! someting isnt right (!).

help!

The cause is almost always one of two things. A bad housing that moves when you turn instaed of forcing the inner cable to move the nozzle, or, a retaining clip the allows the housing to move under a load.

In both cases slow steering is rarely an issue. Just higher speeds where the load over powers the defect.

Joe is on the right track.

On the islandia... the cables are very long, where they come out of the boat. So... to help support themselves, there is a metal cover (sleeve) that extends from the cable housing, and can pivot slightly. After a while, that sleeve will pull out, and it allows the cable to bend.

At low speed, the cable is stiff enough to push the steering nozzle. But at high speed, it takes more force, and if the sleeve is loose... the cable will flex.

So...Do I need to replace the wire with a new, or just check the wire from steering wheel and backward, and look for defaults?
Thanks for answers

I had the same problem on my utopia, but Left vs right. a new steering cable fixed the problem quickly. Not that hard to change either. Ordered from boats.net!

I have found the problem! the hosing moves along when turning right in this area. I can hol the stream nozzle with hands, when steering right its not moving, just this part of the housing.

Glad you found it. Telleflex made the steering parts on your boat. Go to a local boat shop (not Seadoo) and they should be able to get you what you need.

Steering is somewhat important. LOL. Glad you have it fixed.
