Pressure Relief Valve (1.5 P.S.I) - How do you test?

So I think my Pressure Relief Valve (1.5 P.S.I) for the fuel tank is bad. I tried blowing through it both ways and nothing happens. If I use compressed air i can get it to open. Am I correct that this unit is bad? This is the valve just bellow the rub rail on a 98 GSX. If the unit is bad is there something I can replace it with that I could get at a auto store before the weekend?

Spray brake cleaner in it and blow it out with compressed air like you've done, it's likely fine. It's difficult to get it open blowing in it, I think it releases higher than 1.5 psi, more like 3 psi for the vent out if I remember correctly. If you have doubts about it's function just replace with a new one. Caution don't use any ole relief valve, the two valves (vent in and vent out) on the ski release at a different psi.

I will try cleaning it. When I removed the valve u could hear a ton of air coming out of the line. Would this say it was not working

Difficult to say, it's normal for it to hold some pressure in the tank, when you remove the fuel cap sometimes a similar release of air occurs. Like I was saying, I think it's made to hold back like 3 psi maybe higher like 5 psi. I'm not positive, but it does hold back pressure, and a little more than the strongest lungs can get it to release by blowing in it.

I want to say 3 psi. You can use a bike pump to test it.
Or a pop-off tester, you do have a pop-off tester correct............

Ok I clean the unit out last night and then ran air pressure into it. The valve is opening at less than 5 PSI according to my gauge (Gauge starts at 5 PSI). Just to be safe I did order a new unit but tonight I will put this clean on back on and hope to go for a short ride and see if it works.

I just took the ski out and no changes, will not rev up on the water but will on trailer. Open gas cap and nothing. I did notice if I turn the fuel switch to off position it does sound like it wants to take off then. What does this mean

It could mean your fuel selector has done what they are known for doing and failed, allowing air to be sucked into the system. That can definitely cause your symptom. Bypass it and plug the extra line to see if it is.

The selector is brand new. How do I bypass it to see if this is my problem

The selector I purchase was NOT and OEM unit.

I bought a none OEM fuel selector valve and the very next spring season, first outing, it started sucking air.

Take the reserve line loose from fuel selector and run it straight to water separator filter. Take the “on” line loose from the fuel selector and plug it.

Hate to bring the thread back to life but if the relief valve has come apart exposing the spring and seal does that mean its broken/bad? If not can something simple like super glue hold it together? Thanks!

I would just replace it.
