I have a 97 chellenger with 110 horse single engine. It runs at 7200 rpm, but has no power. top speed varies. 40 MPH with 1 person and full of fuel. 15 mph when trying to water ski, but the engine still runs at 7500 rpm. Does the engine not have the horse power, or is the impeller that bad? The impeller does not look that beat up. The wear ring does not have a large gap, less than .040. The boat did sit for several years unused. Could the oil mixture be to rich and lose horse power? Is the carburator not supplying enough fuel to engine? Is a rubber hose collapsing and restricting something? How do measure horse power to the impeller? Could a bad seal through the boat around the output shaft to the impeller cause a problem? Any thoughts?

Problems....?

If your sure the impeller wear ring is less than .040" and the impeller is not damaged, you may be cavitating. Your carbon seal at your rubber boot at the back may be sucking air.

But it seems more like a wearing ring, impeller or shaft issue.....let us know what you find out.

I just replaced the impeller, wear ring, & cermic seal on shaft in a 97 Seadoo 97 challenger. I took the boat out for a spin. It started fine, idiled good, but when we went to take off, RPM maxed at 5000 for about 15 sec. After that the RPM went to 7200 some of the time. and when it went to 7200 rpm it sounded like something was slipping. The higher RPM did not change the speed. The speed max. is about 15 MPH. There does seem to be alot of water in the bilage of the boat. The spark plugs are wetter than I think they should be. Seems to be alot of smoke or steam. Please help!

cermic seal, did you mean carbon seal?....did you check the condition of the carbon plate, shiny disc that carbon seal butts up against, if that's worn, scarred, damged in anyway.
