Porpoising C180 - Trim tabs or pump wedge?

I need to dig up some pics of the transom of a Speedster to see if these will work. You might have more options than we do with the Challengers. For some reason I thought that guys were using aftermarket stuff on the Speedster successfully?

I am also interested if they are not gold plated.. I am new to the forum.. Actually just joined to get in on this...

Welcome.

I'll keep you posted. I honestly don't think they will be dirt cheap, but will do the best I can to get 'em as cheap as possible. Should know probably within the next week. Thanks.

Just a FYI, I called and the kit is no longer available but they were checking part numbers 296 000 244 which is the complete kit. If you call about a 296 000 246 (Support Bracket) and 296 000 247 (trim tab) they were in stock.. I called my local seadoo shop and they said they had two of each in stock in Canada. The items were sold separately and the total was around 600 bucks... Checking online there were a few places that showed them in stock and NOT discontinued.

Very interesting - thanks! I could not find 'em anywhere.....apparently I wasn't looking in the right places. I hope we can do a lot better than 600 bucks, though, from the machine shop. Still waiting on those guys' quote to come back.....any time now. I ping'd them again yesterday. They are swamped at the moment...

Thanks!
Kevin

I'm 100% interested in these for my 05 200 370. I've tried all over the place to get the dimensions and even called BRP. They were helpless. If you do fabricate these trip plate extensions will you have directions on how to install? I'm not very handy but can follow easy directions.

John,

I do have the original BRP instructions for this. Very easy to install.

Take a look at post #24 - there are some pics of the tabs. In particular, look at the picture on the right, it shows where the tabs are located on the transom. Not sure how this would work on your Speedster, as I'm embarrassed to say I haven't looked at the rear of them. But if you could mount them like we will on the Challenger, then there is no reason they should not work.

Thanks,
Kevin

Ahhhhh, pooooop. Yes he said poop. Thanks for the reply Kevin. I'll have to some research and see if these will work on my speedster. The BRP one for a speedster 200 is an extension of the trim plate under each jet. I've seen pic of both boats with hydronic tabs on them but that's a super custom job. If anyone has info on the speedster BRP part that would be greatly appreciated. I've googled it so much I remembered the part number. It's BRP 295500986. Do you know of any way to possibly just get the manual? Thanks again!

John,

PM me your email address and I'll forward you the manual. It's in PDF format. This shows how to put the 296000244 tab kit on the Challenger. And yes, if you are just talking an extension of the trim plate on the Speedster, then we are looking at apples and oranges, unfortunately.

Let me snoop around on that part number. I can't promise anything, but I'll see if my buddy at BRP knows anything.

Thanks,
Kevin

OK, at long last, I have some pricing to share. Let me start off by saying this is not cheap! That said, what I am doing here is building parts that are 100% identical to the original BRP parts.....in fact, they are to the original BRP drawings. And they will come with the original BRP instructions, and every bit of stainless steel hardware needed for the job. Basically, if BRP would still sell these, this is exactly what you would get from them.

Also - Let me state that I am absolutely, positively, not in this to turn any profit whatsoever. Nothing, nada, zilch. I'm throwing this out there somewhat like a "group buy" opportunity, so as to get the price down for all of us. What I get for doing this is to get my own cost down, and also get to help some of you fellow C180 owners. Tomorrow I will post up my spreadsheet showing how I came up with the costs. Open book. You can see that it is worth our while if at least 3, or even 5 of us would do this. But it's still not real cheap any way you look at it.

That all aside, the costs go like this:
- If I were to only do one kit for myself, and nobody else, I am looking at spending $857.57. OUCH!!!
- If I build one set for me, and two sets to sell, the kit cost comes down to $611.07, and that would be shipped USPS
- If I were to build one set for me, and four sets to sell, the kit cost comes down to $562.63, shipped USPS.

Again, tomorrow I will post up the spreadsheet showing what is what. I will say the main cost driver in this all is the two billet CNC mount parts. If someone knows of a good machine shop to do this, let me know and I will get the prints to you to quote.

If anyone hasn't fallen out of your chair on sticker shock and are still interested, please let me know. Not a firm commitment yet, but just tell me what you think.

Thanks,
Kevin

If you aren't in a rush.... I may be able to help you out a little later in the season. I don't work with stainless... but it could be mod'ed to be all aluminum. AND... if there is a real interest... I'm sure I could get that price in check.

I'm all over this! Dr.H, I just sent you a PM.

Thanks!
Kevin

Dr. H,

By the way, if that's your bike, I don't know if it interests you, but I have a brand new gas tank for that thing. New, still in factory epoxy primer. Would make a heck of a deal on it. It needs a new home. :)

Kevin

Sorry... I forgot to get back to you on this. (been nutz at the shop) And... since I don't own a 4-tec... I don't come into this section much.

Yep... I'm interested, but we will have to wait until the weather starts to cool off in Pitt, before I slow down enough, to have the time to make the prototypes.

If you have some basic drawings... you can email them to me at Tony(at)a-lmotorsports(DOT)com

Thanks, Tony.

I haven't heard back from anyone else yet that was interested (I suspect that they might not be on the forums here very much), but I'll forward you the prints and my cost breakdown spreadsheet. If 3D models help you at all, let me know what format you can view and I will get those to you, also.

No worries on pushing this back to the cold weather time. Seeing that July is almost over now, I am pretty much resigned to the fact that I can't make it happen for this summer, and actually had to dump a pile of cash into my truck, so my play money is gone for now anyway. Winter time will be fine. :)

Thanks,
Kevin

I'm in if we can get down to the $611 price point. I'll PM you my info. Also, I do not get any notifications when there is a new reply on here that's why I haven't seen it until now.

Guys, read my install thread alittle up in the Modify section for boats-I put Lenco Tabs on my 200 speedster and can say this:
-They fix the bouncing 100% when down!
-When down they add a lot of drag, you can feel the drag go away as you lift them and the boat jumps up 15 mph
-The boat can still do mid to high 50s with them down but gas consumption is a lot higher
-Because I mounted them inboard-to stay away from the reverse thrust, the boat has a mild ROLL to it when down-not a worry but different
-I did the entire install for just around $700 in parts! TOTAL...you guys are looking at that cost for static tabs?????
-I would not want to lose the option to raise them as you would have w static tabs.
-I also get the best control when they are full down but pending on how many are on the boat-I adjust them alittle less or the nose is too deep-another issue you may have with static tabs.

Just food for thought, if you don't have time to do it right the 1st time.....when will you have time to do it over.
