Installation was a pain in the @$$ because the factory speakers are a little bit wider than a 6 1/2 due to the big plastic cover.
I had to get creative to make it work. In the end I was able to get the speakers in there and they sound WAY better than the factory. The speakers were expensive ($150) but it was well worth it because now I can hear the radio while I'm ridding the boat and they look very nice!!!

BTW, I was impressed with the high quality of the speaker wires that BRP uses on these boats!!!

Nice. I've been looking to MM651 in my C180SE... You said $250 for speakers... Did you pay that for 2 Speakers or 4 Speakers?

Those speakers look awesome! Nice job on the install. The factory speakers on my '07 150 Speedster weren't great...I upgraded to a new Clarion Marine deck with Infiniti 601m Speakers...it sounds absolutely awesome. Crystal clear

I am planning on using those speakers and the MM6501UM's to replace the factory ones in my 230SE. Any details of what I will need to do to make them fit would be great before I pull the trigger and order them. Was that black piece part of the factory speaker? Did the MM651 screw holes line up with the factory ones? Your install looks very clean great job!!!

The black piece was part of the factory speaker. The speaker holes did not line up with the factory hole and that is where the problem lies. You just have to be patient and get creative to make it work!

This is a very relevant thread for me. I am trying to do EXACTLY this. Install Polk speakers in a 2012 Speedster. Can anyone, including the OP, tell me exactly what they did to make this speakers fit so nicely? I see that Z_Monzter used part of the original black backing that was on the boat behind the original Jensen speakers, I just can't tell exactly what he did.

The Polk speaker fits in the existing hole, it is just that the screws are 4 3/8" apart on the Polk speakers and they screw holes that are already drilled in the boat on the edge of the hole are 4 1/2" apart.

Any thoughts on the cleanest, best way to do this?

buy some LED speaker rings and they'll work as adaptors too. That'll look great! I'm not sure what the OP did, but i used spacers in my 180, and others have used the LED rings.

Mark,

I might be wrong but I don't think Z_Monster used Jensen black backing, all he was just trying to show how SeaDoo has done it.

POLK Speaker comes with Adapter and you should be able to use those adapter to fit your speakers in the existing holes. Again, I might be wrong.

Yeah, they didn't come with an adapter but I did buy some Scosche SAU56 adapters and I will see if they work. I was just trying to find out exactly how Monzter did this.

wow. I remember when I got the testing speakers from Fry's.. They had adapter in the box.

I got the Polk Speakers installed using the Scosche SAU56 adapters. It was still tricky to get it all to work, but they sound awesome! Thanks for the help and advice that everyone gave me.

I was wondering what your Polk MM651UM speakers sound like (no amp I assume) sounds like vs the Polk MM651 speakers with the factory Jensen radio. Thanks

There's no sound different between MM651 vs MM651UM (Again I might be wrong) UM stands for Ultra Marine which means they are built for Marine Harsh environment.

If I'm wrong I apologize.

There is a slight difference. Most people wont hear it though. The main difference is the UM are just built to withstand sun and water a bit more. The UM are also 4 ohm where the MM are only 2 ohm. For most people thought that doesnt mean much. It actually makes it easier for the power source to push them.
