Hello,

I am new to the site and world of PWC's. I just Bought my first ski from a long time real good friend of mine (97 GSX 782) and it is in mint condition and very nice, My only problem is when I was messing around with it at home, I hooked a hose up to it and started it in my Driveway after putting fresh plugs in and the gauges dont work? I searched on here and read that it is also suppsoed to beep? It does not beep as well when lanyard is attached, It starts and rides perfect just no gauges or beeps. I talked to my friend about the problem and he said they worked when we owned it. Typical Response....Any ideas??????

Thanx
Scott

Sounds like a fuse. Start there and if that's good then the problem is somewhere else.

Welcome to the seadoo forum KustomScott. I would start too by checking all the plug connections and looking for corrosion.I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up. Some times the beeper is bad. Feel it for a vibration as it just might not be beeping. If that is the case it can be replaced from Radio Shack for less than $15.00.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanx guys for all your help, I took all your advice: I cleaned the Lanyard, and got nothing, Checked all the fuses, there good, Un-pluged every connection on the ski and checked them for corrosion, there perfect, I can connect the lanyard, play with the trim/tilt buttons, they work and start it perfect, but no beeps, or gauges..... So...... Where now? anyway to test the gauges for continuity? Its hard to beleve they both went bad? Does the ski have to be running for a long time for the gauges to come on? I am told: as soon as the lanyard is connected, the gauges should come on?

STATUS: I took apart the dash to see if anything up there was unplugged and all was good, I put it back together, and haha It beeps now!!! Kinda annoying though, but I guess you need it, BUT still no gauges? Do they come on as soon as the Lanyard is attached? or when its running under own power?

The guages will come on as soon as the lanyard powers up the seadoo. In the harness you will find a purple+ and a black- wire this is what powers up the guages. Check this for power and follow it back to the Mpem. Do not use a light tester, only use a multi meter to check the electrical systems.

Karl

Thank You, I will do that today, If they are not getting power, is it the MPEM????, The ski only has 3 fuses, a 5amp, 7.5 and 15 thats it and all of them are working great

Where at in the harness are the wires? There are alot of purple and black wires in the harness LOL

KustomKarl, i did your test, found the connector plug that goes from the Compuer/MPEM? to the gauges(about 20 or so wires) unplugged it and checked for power, I am getting 11.3 at the battery, (new) and 10.2 at the 2 terminals going into the gauge harness, Purple + Black - like you said......what next still no gauges but plenty of beeps

Scott

BTW: I own a Powder Coating shop called Kustom-Koats, so it was just form fitting calling myself KustomScott, sorry its a little to close to your name as well LOL thanx again

Scott teh beeps is a good thing. Is it possible that there is a bad ground somewhere neer the guages the voltage shouldn't drop that low in that short a distance. Try this run a seperate ground and hot direct to the battery for a test to see if the guages power up. Disconnect the wireing from teh seadoo for teh test.

I own a company called Kustom Ability. I build Custom Vehicles for a living. I am also a certified Florida Car Dealer. All my business friends call me "Kustom Karl" It's fitting as I have 34 years in the business. Being custom is a good thing...the "K" makes it special.

Yah I thought it was weird that there was a voltage drop in the distance myself, even though the battery is in the back of the ski and the ECU is up front, You think they will not come on with only 10 volts? I wonder what could be causing a voltage drop? She fires up with no choke and the first push of the start button with no problems? Hmmmm....... Tomorrow I will pull the connectors out of the plug and disconect it from the ECU and run straight hot power to them, Should I disconect anything else on the ski or just the gauge plug?

Were anxious to ride, but want to be totally sure before we do.

How often do these things overheat? I hear its an issuse with them as well

I would disconnect both leads from the battery and go direct to the ground and power...than no chance or back feeding to the MPEM,(Multi Purpose Electronic Module).

Karl

OK, Now Im starting to get annoyed, I unplugged the connector and ran straight juice from the battery to the gauges and nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott if you ran direct to the gages and nothing...then the gages might be bad. For the sending units to make the gages work they must be connected. Try to just use power and ground direct. Unplug the ground and power from the plug connector so it won't get double power. The gages won't show anything without 12 volts to them.

Karl

Thanx, I will try tomorrow or so. Before I just un-plugged the gauge connector and tried to run straight power, I think tomorrow I will leave the connector in the MPEM and just pull the Purple and black out of the connector and run straight 12+ to them........Will let you know tomorrow

Thanx again, It sux My buddy, Ryan Spehn is ranked like 5th in world for racing ski's and is sponsored by Sea-Doo, but cant help me, he has spare gauges to give me if thats the problem, he just lives like 2 hours away :/

Ok, gauges are still not working I tried to do the test KK said to do, But I can not get the plugs out of the connector, and now my beeper is not working again!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how often do these things overheat? Very often or Not very often? The water temp in my area is 73 degrees pretty much everyday and I figure if I run out of gas, I will just flip on the good ol Reserve so who needs gauges huh? I raced ATV's MX and cross country and never used gauges...Come to think of it, How many gallons do I get on reserve BTW? or How many miles?

Scott, there is a special tool needed to pop the wire out of the connector...you could use a small screw driver to pop it out if your careful. The reserve should have 10 % of the full volume of the full tank. It should get you back like about 4 miles from home I think. I still think you have a short in the power wire somewhere, with the voltage dropping like that.

Keep me posted on you progress.

Ok, Now out of no where while sitting on a trailer in my garage, The VTS fuse keeps poping? How does this happen while just sitting on a trailer? I pulled the cover, tried to take the motor out, but it will not give and tested the polaritys both ways and the trim goes up and down? So how does this happen? and the beeper is not beeping problay B/C the VTS is blowing a fuse huh?

I searched and read all the topics on the VTS fuse problem but no topic say how to fix it?

Ok, I found a good article:

I think my VTS is bad and thats what caused the gauges to short out, The 7.5 fuse always blows, when you unplug the main power to the VTS, red and black wire the fuse does not blow, as soon as its plugged in, it blows, any good connections on a VTS? are they all the same? from the GSX,GTX, XP models of the era?
