Hi Everyone, I am really hoping that someone who has replaced the High Pressure Fuel Pump in the VST unit can assist me with something ... becoming very frustrated working on this. Its a 2000 Challenger 2000 with the 240 efi. I have replaced all of the fuel lines and as I mentioned in earlier posts, removed the VST unit and purchased a new Fuel pump. I got the new Fuel Pump in 1 day from Quantum, can't beat that !!

So, I removed the old pump out of the cover by prying with a screw driver under the metal trim ring and it came out reasonably easy, however, putting the new pump back in the cover is not so easy because the trim ring is pressured fitted into the cover. I am hoping that someone who has replaced this pump can offer some suggestions on how to press fit the unit along with that trim ring back into the top cover. I tried using a screw driver and a rubber mallet to tap it into place but not having much luck with that approach as the opposite side just pops out.

Here is a picture of the old unit and the trim ring, as I say, anyone who has done this will know what I mean.

Please Please Help !! Lol.. I have had many many boats in my life and have never had so many challenges as I am having with this one.

Thanks in Advance
Bruce

Hi Guys, just a quick update to say that the Quantum trim ring that comes with the new fuel pump is a bit larger than the oem one and it is impossible to get it in. I ended up breaking my new fuel pump because it came out of the vice while trying to get the ring in and it fell on the floor and broke one of the terminal posts. The pump itself looks pretty decent but the trim ring prevents us using it on the VST system.

Hi Again, just thought I would say that while installing the original trim ring it was no problem at all .. a little tap with a center punch and rubber mallet seated it perfectly.

Hi There, in my case since I broke the new pump I had to put the old pump back in and I reused the old trim ring which installed with just a little bit of tapping with a punch and rubber mallet. Knowing now how the pump is installed within the VST tank it would of been possible to use the new pump with the old ring, one would need to remove the new ring from the new pump. I had actually called the Qauntum support team to ask if that was possible because you would need to slide an existing clip that is installed over the plastic tube where the fuel is distributed from, simple question but they just kept saying .. well we have never had any problems before. After breaking the new pump, it is possible to remove that clip so that the new trim ring could be removed from the new pump. Unfortunately, the plastic distribution tube on the Quantum one is slightly larger in diameter than the oem one so you cannot simply slide the new pump into the existing trim ring, you need to remove the old oem trim ring to insert that new clip to accommodate the new pump.

Its too bad that the Quantum after market pump is not exactly the same in terms of that clip and trim ring because the actual pump looks pretty good. Hope that helps a bit .. once you see how that pump is installed within the vst tank, the above explanation will make sense.

I understand your explanation. I wonder if anyone has found an aftermarket pump that does work without issue.

Just wanted to add this .. the clip I am referring to is the "silver" one which is over the "black" tube in the picture above.
