I recently acquired a 2003 GTI LE RFI with 787

I have been told to use Pennzoil Marine XLF two cycle marine oil from the previous owner because that’s what he used.

It is a TC-W3 oil and I have been reading this type of oil is bad news.

What type of issues can result from the use of that type of oil?

And does anyone have experience with using this specific oil from Pennzoil.

I don't think you will find anyone around here who has used that brand \ type of oil in their seadoo. Based on my understanding it may not effectively lubricate the engine and all its parts potentially reducing its life span. But this would also depend on riding style. The TC-W3 is made for lower operating temps than the Rotax engine operate at. So if it was ridden hard this would be worse than someone who just went for a calm sunday drive without stressing the engine.

I am no engineer so if the guys who designed the engine says not to use a type of oil I tend to just go with it. I would check the compression and if it is good switch to the proper oil. Do not mix oil types. I hear that can make your problems even worse. Also cleaning the rave valves might be a good idea. Good luck and enjoy the new ski.

Thanks Spider.

I changed the oil to the correct type (emptied Oil reservoir and blew out oil lines).

I also pulled the rave valves and they were coated with black so I cleaned them up.

Compression isn’t bad either (150 and 155) so I don’t think I have any damage but I’m going to rebuild the top end this winter anyway. Just hope bottom end is good. It runs so that’s a good sign.

Yup, some of the more experience people here have recommended that type of Lucas oil. You are good to go. As for the compression numbers, they are really good. I would be hesitant to open up a motor with readings like that. Perhaps some more experienced riders might chime in on that one. Cheers

I don't want to get chastized here,,,since approx 1997'ish,,,we won from a prize table ,,,free shell nautilus 2stroke full synthetic oil,,,that we had never used,,,and in our 800cc 96 XP,.,reving at 7750,,,we could never attribute a seizure to the oil...we have been using it since,,,it also comes with a picture if a skidoo on the front,,,same stuff,,,and a huge bargain at $40.00 a jug...and our walmart sells it!

No judgement from me. That's why I said "may" not effective lubricate and "potentially" reduce life span. I tried to choose my words carefully.

Unless someone wants to buy 2 identical skis an put XPS in one of them and another brand in another and then drop them in a controlled water tank and run the crap out of them at the exact same RPMs and see which lasts longer and then do post mortem autopsy the topic will carry on forever. Which is something I would love to do if I win the lottery.
