2012 RXP 260 30 Hrs.

After riding 3 hrs, single beep and went to limp mode. Error code: P0524. Dealer says to check the oil filter. If it's crushed , faulty oil pump?

To confirm tech says to put a new oil filter and run it. If it crushes again, it a faulty oil pump? Does this make sense?

Oil filter is crushed. Hows this related to a faulty oil pump?

Oil and filter replaced at dealer when the unit had 25 hrs. Oil level is at top mark.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I agree if the filter is crushed then one oil pump failed. However at that point you would have lost oil pressure and putting in a new filter and running it would be slightly stupid I would think.

Sounds like another case of a dealer kind of knowing what they are talking about, but not really.

Crushed oil filter is fairly common but usually is NOT a faulty oil pump. The filter crushes from a difference in pressure from one side to the other. This can be caused by water in the oil that clogs the filter, water in the oil from wave jumping, head gasket small leak, oil pressure regulator failure, even by a faulty o-ring oil filter gasket. BRP put a tech bulletin out on this several years ago.

Running with a crushed or clogged oil filter won't hurt anything. There is a bypass that allows oil to circulate when this system clogs. The 4tec oil system is a very well designed system. Here is a nice video that explains...
