Oil Lines and Filter location

I am replacing the Oil Tank and decided to replace the oil filter. I was looking at the Oil System diagram for my 2004 GTI LE RFI and noticed the 8mm line with filter is going to the engine behind the starter and the larger 12mm hose is going to the oil pump. My oil filter was installed on the 8mm line but connected to the oil pump and the 12mm larger hose goes to the location under the engine. Are the hoses connected incorrectly? Or is the diagram for the oil system incorrect?

Out of curiosity, I just looked at the 2003 Oil System diagram and it is routed like mine is.

I don't think you could connect either line the way it is drawn. 8mm to the injection oil pump 12mm to the rotary valve chamber near the back of the starter.

I think what you are saying that it's obvious a 8mm line wouldn't fit on a 12mm nipple and the 12mm hose would be too big for the 8mm nipple on the oil pump. Right?
