Oil Injection

All, my Doo,s are between 1994-97 Explorer(94), GTX(96), GTI(97), I still have the oil injection hooked on all of them, should I consider premix, what do you pros think? I grew up mixing for my outboards, but I do like the injection.
ps the only ski w/ original engine is the GTI (best trouble free ski)
 
Most of the Pro's will tell you that the Seadoo oil injection pumps are VERY reliable. The majority of engines blown due to oil starvation are a result of other components such as the small oil lines cracking/leaking or by mixing oil types and causing the two to "gel" and clog the system.

As long as you regularly inspect the oil lines/filter, use an appropriate oil, and don't mix oil brands, you should be just fine.
 
X2....replace the little injection lines, replace the filter, prime the pump, then hold the pump wide open when you start it to refill the new lines.
 
Also keep in mind, (correct me if I am wrong guys) but it is cheaper to keep the injection system because it uses oil more efficiently. You will consume less oil per gallon of gas since the injection rates vary. Not to mention it being a pain in the butt worrying about mixing upon every fill up. (which can happen several times throughout a trip).

Anyway, what they said :agree: check your lines and keep the injection, or at least I would.

If you do replace the lines or have to prime the system, I would run a tank of premix though to make sure you dont get oil starvation in the mean time while it is priming back up.

Good point and yes...you do end up using more oil if you premix.
 
What size is the injection lines? I went and bought some weedeater fuel line to use but even that was too big. Also seance we are on the subject.....if you change the lines do the fill right back up with oil on there own quickley or do you need to prime or anything...maybe I am way over thinking this one LOL!!
 
I put yellow lawn mower lines on mine. Not sure the size. I had them on my 1994 spx for around 3 years now, as long as you spray your ski they wont dry out. Plus you can tell if there is Oil running threw them.

Replace the lines.
Add a little oil to your fuel tank for protection.
Crank it up on the hose.
While idling reach down and hold the oil pump linkage wide open for about a minute or two and fill the lines.
Now, you are good to go
 
The correct size is 3/32" ID... And yes hold it wide open till the lines are full. I usually dump a capful of oil down each carb on customer machines....but usually it takes about 10-15sec to fill them.

The "experts" always are right. We dumb non-experts are always getting "one-upped."

I know a guy that used fish aquarium Air tubes... They turned white on him but never rotted or cracked.

The oem oil pump is variable so as at idle it mixes the right amount for 40/1 ratio, as you increase the revs it adjust to add more oil so you still have the 40/1 ratio, please correct me if i'm wrong.
If you mix your premix at 40/1 then you will always have 40/1 ratio going in no matter what revs.
So in both cases you are putting 40/1 ratio oil to fuel so how can it use less or more?

I think you are looking at the term "variable" the wrong way. The oil pump is variable because it varies the oil mixture. If it alway provided a 40:1 mixture...it would not be "variable".

I don't have the numbers for the exact mixture, but at idle I don't believe the oil pump is mixing at 40:1. My proof of this is seeing posts from hundreds of people who do run premix. It is common knowledge that running a 40:1 premix at idle will cause excessive smoke and if run long enough at idle, it will foul the plugs. People with premix HATE long No Wake zones. This is a clear indication that a 40:1 mixture is overly rich at idle.

I have also seen numerous people who run premix complain about the extra oil they go through after converting to premix.

I would only use a tube that was rated to carry a petroleum/fuel product.


Yep... x2 on that.

Vinyl will work with fuel, for a while. But Oil is a different beast, and has different solvent properties.

I have been using Tygon hose in everything I service. It is chem, fuel, oil, Diesel rated. And, as stated above... you can see the oil in it. (it's the yellow hose) Best of all... you can get it at any Hobby Shop. They sell it for "GAS" engines. (Do not confuse it with silicone hose for "Glow" engines)
