I notice the last few days a oil film around the rear of my 98 sportster. I have seen the oil around the boat a few times during the day . There is oil in the bilge but the pump has not been running. I had to remove and recharge the battery because my kids were in the boat and left the lights on, so I know the pump was not on. I had one of the motors changed and they dumped oil in the fuel tank for break in of the rebuild motor and since then I have notice more oil in the bilge than before, I had this spotless before it when in. Also my morning start up I fog the marina but no smoke after running. What is causing the oil around the boat, If I step on the rear platform it appears and if the water calm I see it appers to be coming from under the boat. There is a older bayliner next to me but I see no oil around him

Sounds like you need to clean out the bilge, and find the leak.

If there is a leak... the most likely place is the grommets on the oil tank. They get hard, and will leak.

environmentally speaking, a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid will get rid of the oil slick on the water.

Thanks Just got the boat in june and really like It, great in calm water but really tough in rough water midday on the lake. Were my dock is I get the first hit of the the boat traffic I see that boat rocking away all day. I was thinking it may have been lubercation from the jet drive area. Its a 98 with 200 plus hours on it 1 new motor and dont know much more. I will be getting into the guts this winter getting the seats done and some hydro turf and learning more about the boat. Maybe looking into a little bigger jet boat for the rougher waters, thanks again, I will look at the grommets / Dawn this weekend. Thanks guys PT

Boat lift

As soon as I bought my bought I realized I needed a boat lift. It is nice to dock the boat and not worry about it smashing around.
There are some really nice options out there. I think I'd look at the plastic drive on type.

I bought a traditional cantilever style. It has come in handy for quick repairs without having to trailer the boat.
