For all of you in need of starters you might want to check this out. I had to buy a new starter for my 98 Sportster 1800. The port engine starter was trashed and it was cheaper to buy New vs having the OEM rebuilt (armature was trashed). The new OEM came in today. Come to find out its a DENSO marine starter denso PN# 228000-4553. If I had known this I could have bought the same starter for a whole lot less money from the link I'm posting below.. You guys might want to check these guys out, its not CHINA made. Its a true DENSO starter.. I won't pay for another OEM when all their doing is putting a DENSO in the box..

check out this link http://www.spidermarine.com/showite...=100% New Nippondenso 12 Volt 9 Tooth Starter

You are correct Denso is the OEM for SeaDoo, that's a deal, even the list price is a deal, the selling price is a steal. I don't really need one right now but I'm considering ordering one just to have a spare. Thanks for sharing the info.

Your all welcome. I can understand not buying the cheap knock-offs from China they sell on EBay but if Nippondenso is the OEM manufacturer for BRP why not save the money. I knew something was going on when I saw " made in Japan" on the outside of the box, my suspicions were confirmed when I opened the box and saw the "Denso" label and part number..

ordering a Denso from Spider Marine tonight. The OEM had the Denso tag proudly affixed to it with no mention of the BRP part number.

OK... so you don't know who made the one at spider yet.

Yes... the factory starter is Denso... but I don't think the one from spider will be. (but I hope to be proven wrong) Spider's add doesn't say they are selling Denso starters... they are just saying the "OE" starter was made by Denso.

***EDIT****

Now that I looked at the add again... it says toward the bottom of the description that the manufacture of the one they are selling is "Spider Marine." I bet it will just be the same import junk we always see.

I called Spider and didn't get a answer so I emailed their sales dept and asked the origin of manufacture. Doc is correct, their starters aren't Denso's, their made in either China or Taiwan. Just thought I'd let you know. I did find some true Denso remanf starters thru a Denso distributor for $174.00 if anyone is interested. www.densoproducts.com
