Octane booster

Has anyone added an octane booster to regular gas in a Challenger super charged 215hp? Is it recommended or not? I've been using regular gas as premium is not available at our lake. Would like to try premium and thought an octane booster might be an easy answer.

it is recommended to add performance!

i believe some of the newer seadoos can take both reg and premium. they have the ability to make tiny adjustments in timing to accomodate either octane level.

you should not be hurting your boat unless you hear knocking or pinging under load . if you do hear it, let off throttle and get premium fuel before you get to the lake.

the only thing i can tell you about octane boosters and back it up (company i work for now, does a ton of research with fuels and additives) is that if you see a bottle that increases 10 points per tank (most of the time it is for a 20 gallon tank ,please read label) that really means only 1 extra octane true point!

in other words if you have a 20 gallon tank and you have 90 octane and want 95 octane. you need to buy 5 bottles of octane booster! to gain 5 true octane points! taking in notice the octane booster you are buying is a 10 point increase!

sorry for the essay!

Not worth the money to get an additional octane IMO. If you can't get premium fuel where you are, grab the Lucas brand. It bumps the octane up 3 true points. If I can find the link I used to have I will post it for you. A test was done on all the major additives to see which produced the most points increase and Lucas came out on top with the most increase in true octane points. It runs you about $8-9 a bottle.

lucas is the one of the best out there. still , points in bottled octane boosters are measured in 10th's!

lucas is one of the very few octane booster that will actually give you 3 octane number increase!

i like all the lucas stuff i use their fuel treatment , because it does work(keeps injectors cleane, lubricated, and prevents buildup)

but, octane boosters are tricky. they are not lying, they just measure it different than the consumer reads!

also , when you read test results read how much fuel they mix it with if they mix with 5 or 10 gallons you will see better results with one bottle , but you might have a 20 -25 maybe 40 gallon tank!

This is a good read on the different products.

http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/octane_boosters.html

"To date Lucas octane booster is the only booster tested that had significant results with only one bottle in the tank. One bottle is enough to make 10 gallons of 96.6 octane out of 93."

So that would run you about $16-$18 for about 20 gallons of gas. :ack: Torco also makes good stuff. It would be cheaper to find 93 somewhere obviously.

I run a bottle of Lucas in my supercharged Mustang on the street for a little added insurance. It's tuned for 93 but I add this on particularly hot summertime days and it works well. I never thought I'd be discussing octane booster on a boat forum but I guess it's just as well.

i stand corrected!

Now as far as your added insurance, that is the exact purpose of these octane boosters. If you feel you got cheated out at the pump a few points, or running a supercharger/turbo and experience denotation with premium fuel then add octane booster. It is exactly that, added insurance!

I edited some of my info because, i just had to do some more research,

Well it turns out that lucas will increase 3 true octane numbers to whatever octane fuel you have . so i.e. if you have 90 octane then add lucas it will do 93 . taking into consideration 20 gallon tank per 15 oz. bottle.

but, dont misunderstand that if you add another bottle it will become 96 , that will not happen, since octane booster and fuel will platue to the boosters ability.

(all info relayed was provided by a lucas rep.)

Shockerfd... you don't happen to have that (it's either black or white) mustang, do you? newer body style... I have a feeling we live a lot closer than we think we do... Right behind Survival Products? Your girlfriend have the other color, either black or white? I saw 2 behind each other the other day right by my house. Nice car if that's yours... and it was definitely supercharged... sorry to go so far off topic!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I haven't seen the Lucas brand up here in The Great White North, but I will look for it. I am definately gonna try something.
