I recently purchased a 99 GTX but I don't know what type of oil the previous owner used. Does this matter for when I go to put more oil in? I plan on using the Quicksilver synthetic from WalMart but want to make sure I won't have any problems when I do. Thanks.

I believe its recomended to use as much of the old oil as possible before adding in another type of oil. Mixing oils can sometimes cause problems.

Yes........

:agree: with 6KJR. Mixing oils leads to possible engine failure if your not sure what type is in it.

When I got my boat a few years ago, the owner couldn't tell me what was in it, since he had it maintained/winterized by the Seadoo shop. He said oil was put in once a year in the spring, after de-winterizing. So, I ended up draining all the oil and re-filling to make sure I didn't mix much oil. It' impossible to get it all out.

I have been using the Wal-Mart bought, Quicksilver "Full Synthetic" brand oil for 2 seasons now. Good plug burn with 87 octane fuel.
