I took my 95' XP out last weekend and the jetski wouldn't start. I tried to start it on the trailer first and it seemed like it was going to, but after a couple of time with no success, it just started to click and the battery light is on. The battery is 3 months old and all of the connections to the battery are clean and tight. I was just wondering if I could get some insight as if it could be the battery or possibly the starter? It is a West Marine sealed AGM battery that is 18 amps. It seems like it wants to go but it starts to turn over very slow and then after a couple of seconds then it just clicks. Should I try a new battery first, and if so, should I go with a 19 amp instead? Also, the week before that when there was no issue with the battery, the ski seems to rev up fine, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere, it just has a pinging kind of sound to it when I give it gas, it revs but no acceleration. It sounds like seaweed was stuck in it, but everything was clear. Could it be that there is no oil in the jet pump cause I haven't checked that recently. If so, where is the jet pump located so I can check the oil? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!!

Problems........

Steve, you sound like you could possibly be having two problems. The battery is new, but that doesn't mean it's good. Today, I just took back a jet ski battery I bought less than 3 months ago. At least, they gave me a new one. Didn't cost me a cent. But, if you take your battery out and have it tested at Autozone or the like, you should also test your charging system. While your at the parts place, you'll need to purchase (if you don't have one) a multi meter. If you don't know which setting to use, ask the guy your getting the battery from , he'll show you. Then, when you get it home and hook it up, start the ski. Put the positive and negative leads on the battery. It should be showing you a reading about 14.0 VDC. If your only getting 12, then your rectifier or magneto is bad.

The "no-go" issue is your wearing ring. It will need to be removed and replaced. You can do a search from the tool bar above with keywords like "wearing ring"............

Hi, Just an idea to save batterys. These things draw a small current when they are just sitting! Install a battery disconect switch or just unhook the Negitive cable when your not going to use your ski more than a couple of days!
This will save your battery!!! :hurray:

disconnect?

All boat and PWC batteries should be disconnected when not in use or while being stored. Do not store the battery in an area of extreme heat. Freezing temperatures are worse for a battery than high temps.

But, disconnect the ground wire when not in use.
