ORION '95 Speedster

I happen to run across a guy in Moses Lake, WA that has a Sportster sitting in his yard that is broken. Its a '96 - Single engine. Runs, but has head gasket issues. Comes with a spare motor. I inquired about it, and he said he would sell it for $1200 including the trailer. Papers for everything.

He said its lacking power, and one spark plug had water on it.

He does not have it advertised.

Spare motor may or may not be any good. I have no idea.

I was wondering what you guys think of this deal.

If it comes with trailer then maybe. But I think you should try talking him down a little more to provide some margin, especially if the cosmetics perspective isn't great.

Check the compression, maybe you can piece this baby back together without spending much money and mostly elbow grease. Leave it alone if you're not willing to do it yourself b/c a shop rate will blow any deal out of the water.

Try to make sure it's all there, sucks having to go look for and buy pieces that are missing.

Based on it being a single, I most likely will not buy it. Plus $1200 is a lot of money for how many ???'s there are. If the head gasket was leaking water, the crank could be rusted. If anyone else is interested in contacting the guy, I can pass along the number. I think he was negotiable on price. I offered $500 and he declined.

I just bought a 1996 Sportster w/ sea doo trailer, new tires, bimini, and tow cover. The engine was blown along with the seats blown out. $500. For sure needs work. Head work, crankshaft, carb kits, seat covers, and misc it comes out to around $1000. With some paint and polish, this will be a nice little boat for the price.

August 3rd I bought this for 1600 with trailer...just needed seats recovered. 96 speedster has 2 motors..sportster 1

That is a pretty good deal, as said, if the trailer is included. I paid 1200 for our sportster and the engine was seized completely. However, the interior and the trailer were perfect. Also the boat was even shiny. It had had very little use. That said, what is the cosmetic condtion ?

I never got that close to it. It appeared to be sitting for at least a few months. No tarp or cover over it. Not under a car port. No idea the condition of the seats, but from a distance it looked OK. He sounded negotiable. Im guessing it could be had for $750-$1,000.
