1 Compression 150 both
2 New top end rebuild
3 Fuel selector valve doesn't leak
4 Oil injection works
5 Rotary valve cover and valve are not badly grooved, the timing is perfect.
6 new carburetor arrived today, same issues so I guess I'll return it. Pop off is 36 right exactly where the book wants
7 new oil injection lines, api tc Lucas oil.
8 new jet pump rebuild
9 screwed down all fuel tank straps since rivets all broke. Just tilted the fuel tank sideways to make room.
10 new br8es ngk plugs
Fuel and oil lines are not grey they are black. Don't think they came grey in 02 either.
There is spark in both cylinders.
I got this ski for 800, compression was 135. It turned on when I looked at it but I did not water test it. Once I went home, charged The battery, went out to test it and it was running fine in the water and I got it up to 35 mph since it had only a learner key. The impeller splines stripped when I tried to do a hole shot full throttle, second try though and then it also at the same time did not want to hold its idle right after that happened, I had to hold the throttle little to keep it started and limped back to the dock at idle speed. It was taking on water at the same time for some reason. Check the compression after that and the rear cylinder was low. So I decided to do a top end rebuild and here I am. I rebuilt the carburetor with genuine mikuni rebuild kit, and I even got a new carburetor today to see if that would change anything but no. I am scared that maybe I messed up the MPEM because I accidentally hooked up the battery backwards, it blew the five amp fuse, replace the fuse. I got a new key programmed and it turns on on land so I'm not sure if it is fine or if something is really just messed up on it.
It will not start first try without pressing the throttle on land, once it does start and I shut it off, it starts on first crank although might have to press the throttle a little after to keep it idling steady. When I just try to start it without using the accelerator pump to get it to fire first, it sounds like it wants to start but then doesn't.
In the water, It will fire once then completely die and not start again. I have only successfully turned it on in the water once after starting it on land, turn it off, immediately back the trailer into the water, turn the back on with full throttle and I was able to just hold the throttle to keep it alive. Once I let go of the throttle it died and never turn back on in the water.
There is a rubber ring around the fuel pickup that is cracked, but it was already cracked when I got it and the jet ski was running fine in the water then.
Not sure what to do other than get another rotary valve. But I don't know if I even I need it since it was running fine before the rebuild.
