No spark with plugs in

Hello and I hope someone can help.
Here is what i have:
1996 GTX with 787 engine

Purchased not running and trying to get it running for my wife. The ski has not been run this year and person I purchased it from said he had it winterized last year and tried to start it oncee with no luck.
First sympton is it has problems cranking. Sometimes will crank sometimes will try and not make it giving one beep and then I have to remove lanyard wait and put it back on.

i have replaced the spark plugs, ignition coil, starter, used another battery that will start up my GP760 fine.

Compression is about 140 on both cylinders

Checked pick up coil, magneto stator, new coil, and spark caps resitance and they are fine.

With plugs removed and grounded using a ignition spark light test system turns over fine and I am getting voltage to the spark lines. So tells me pick up coil DC-CDI coil wires and plug caps are good.

If I crank with plugs removed for a while like i am fixing a flooded engine then reinstall the plugs and useing spark tester, and try to turn over it turns over fine and I get spark voltage.

Repeated this with everything connected as should be and the engine will cough a few times like it wants to start and then I get back into the cycle of it will not crank anymore. I pull the plugs and repeat and same thing. I am now stuck and not sure where to look. Thanks for any help.

Laright something new to add. Had loud backfire and they I got it up and running yeah.

While i had it up measured magneto output 13.5 volts.
No problem is if I turn it off and then try to start it I have the same issue will not start will turn over on the battery. Have to pull the plugs and turn it over with out plugs then it will start right up.

One other thing I have to hook battery charger to battery on 12amp setting just to get it started. and I do not know if this is related but there is water leaking from upper exhaust pipe.

Starter....

With the plugs out, it sounds like your saying it spins over freely, but with the plugs in, it labors to start...is this correct? If so, it seems your starter may be losing it's torque. You may be in the market to buy a new one. When you pull the plugs, how do they look? Dry or wet. If wet, is it fuel or water.

The leak in your exhaust is where the cooling water crosses the head, into the exhaust system where it circles the heated exhaust gases before entering the engines water jacket. It's used to preheat the water and cool off the exhaust gases. You've also got a water regulator that injects water into the exhaust for resonance and cooling.

When your trying to start, you aren't running your water to the engine are you. Procedure is to start motor first, turn on the water, the shut off water, then turn off engine. And you never supply city water to the engine without having a bleed off hose.

Thanks for the reply.
As I stated it is a brand new starter. The water issue came when I finally got it started. I have been posting and working and posting.

The plugs are wet with fuel and oil.

As for connecting city water, I have the connection like the HX model on page 02-02-2 of shop manual. This is also how it is listed in the supplement for the owners manual. Where do you connect the bleed of hose?

One thing I did just notice was I think the guy may have been useing the wrong type of oil. I think I may drain and try with correct type. I do not think he was using syntheitc (bottle of regular 2 stroke oil in front compartment). grrr. I do not know if this would make it hard to crank over but I will see. Hopefully no damage.

So agin here is the current problem. Will start now after remove the plugs and crank over a few times and then reinstall and starts right up and runs great. Then if I shut it off I cannot restart without doing this again. Again thanks for the help.

im having the same exact problem on the same exact seadoo. i just got do rebuilding it for my cousin. and i noticed the once it would start and turn it off it wouldnt come back on again and it would be a hell of a time for it to crank. also i replaced the starter with a new one. this is so weird. i need to know how to drain the fuel tank because the gas inside of the tank is a few years old. if also sometimes i loose all power to the spark plugs and get 0 spark ..

yeah that sums it up. I hooked light check for spark and if I shut it off and they try to start I get no spark. Some times I get a spark then nothing. light will not light any more.

It is working now

Well it seems the problem was the battery!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though the 2 batteries I have were good enough to start my yamaha they were not good enough to start the Seadoo. Purchased new battery from a shop that keeps the news ones ready to drop in and it started right up. let it run for about 15 mins and shut it off and it started right up again. I will keep cycling it and see if it stays running. now to fix the water leak. Time for a new post. Hope this helps someone else.
