My 2005 GTX Wakeboard Edition lights up properly with the DESS in but no beeps whatsoever on a strong battery that has been checked. The start/stop button does not work at all, no cranking and it doesn't even seem to depress so do I have a bad start switch or something more serious?

Im new to the PWC world. I keep hearing about people mentioning that they hear Beeps when they are starting their skis. Is this a warning system for something? I have a 98 GTS, that runs great and no problems. Should I be hearing a beep if everything is working correctly or only if there is trouble? I know there is some type of speaker it looks like in the handle bar pad but never beeps or makes any noise. Can someone tell me what the beep is actually for and when it should or should not beep. Any ideas how to check and see if this speaker is good.

Thanks
Ray

beeps

every sea doo beeps twice to let you know its the correct key, where one long beep says its wrong key or it didnt recognize the key. I would be willing to bet if everything is powering up but it wont crank over you have a bad starter relay. Ive replaced at least 18 of them this season at work. this goes even for the newer skis, seeing I have replaced at least 3 on skis less than a year old. Sea Doo has a new updated starter relay out this year as well. you can tell the difference by the mounting plate, the old style has a metal base and the new one is all plastic and thicker so you will need a little longer bolts when reinstalling the new style. hope this helps.

you can check the relay by sending power to the small terminal on the realay there should be 2 large and one small the small is the ignition if you send power to this with the key in the engine should turn over if it doesent you have a bad relay

Sea Doo's that have the D.E.S.S. system will beep. NOT ALL Sea Doo's will beep when the lanyard is installed.

I had one a couple years ago that did that same thing now that I think about it. The MPEM sends a signal to the ECU and the ECU sends one back to the MPEM to complete powering the system up. It ended up being the MPEM was bad and not recognizing the signal coming back. If you know anyone with the same year and model plug thier mpem in place of yours and use thier lanyard. If it starts you know its the mpem. there are only 2 nuts to take off for removal of the mpem.

How do I know if my ski has a D.E.S.S system. I have a 98GTS. I was told the key is coded to the ski but I dont have any beeps or any noise at all any time. Starts up and runs great. Maybe a bad beeper? Is there a technical name for the beeper if I look for a new one or Should I even worry about changing it. I only have one seadoo with a key like this so I wont get them confused. Is it a warning system for anything else?

Thanks again for the insight

rksnow,
You have the DESS system on your ski.
I can't rember, but I think pre 1996 didn't have DESS.
Digitally Encoded Security System

My two 94 SPX's do not have it. They are a pure joy, because they are fun to ride and simple to fix.

Yup, jesse is rite, 96 is wen they started DESS, im very happy mine dont have the DESS system, wenever I need a key its simple to get and it doesnt need to be programed.

Is the "starter relay" the same as the "solenoid"? Where is the Starter Relay located? Thanks. 2005 Sea-Doo RXT.
