I can understand what you are saying, but if the starter was shot, why would it move the other ski and cause it to fire up? I took the starter off of the jet ski that runs and put it on the one that doesn't run. It is doing the same thing that the starter that was chewed up did when we tried to crank it the first time. Here's a list of things that we tried:
-pulled the spark plugs, PTO turns over by hand, we completed several revolutions so the motor shouldn't be seized
-pulled the starter off of Doo 1 (seadoo that cranks)
-placed the starter on Doo 2, tried to crank, same problem. Driveshaft wants to turn, but isn't able too.
-checked all of the connections as well as the solenoid. ( I did sand down the terminals, just to be sure)
-jumped the solenoid, same problem. The starter engages, kicks the driveshaft over about 1/4 inch, hangs and the tries again.
When it hangs, or stops moving, it's like everything stops for a split second, and then it starts again, turning over another 1/4 inch.
At this point I'm thinking that something is causing friction somewhere maybe? Is it possible that anything electrical could be causing the engine to kill and start like this? I'm willing to try anything to get this ski running. Tomorrow we're going to take the starter off again to check the flywheel and see if there might be any friction there causing the driveshaft hang. I'm just trying things at this point. I have a meter, so I will check the voltage and see if that might be the problem. But if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.
