Newbie - How to distinguish 787's

Hello everyone,

I am looking to get into a seadoo boat, and have been reviewing the threads here in the 2 and 4 stroke forums. I am leaning towards a single engine boat, as the use is going to be focused on lake use to pull the grand daughter and friends around on tubes.
I may consider a 4tec boat, but as expected, they are newer, pricier, and after reading a recent comparison thread on 4tec vs 2 stroke's, it seems that a good 2 stroke boat will suit my needs.

I have heard that 787 motors are the way to go, and despite searching, cannot find anything here on how to determine which years, models, or how to tell a 787 apart from another motor.

1) What boats did the 787 come in, & what years were they available?

Here are the current options avail on craigslist. I am going to start running around and checking them out. Thanks to those that have posted up on what to look for, and yes, I will get compression tests and water test any prospective boats. I have been looking at nadaguides as a pricing guide, but I have to use the nearest Wash State zip code to get the nearest local value.

I would like your opinions on which ones you recommend, and why. Any concerns would be appreciated. Feel free to shoot me a message on their listed price, if you feel one is over priced, or have any experience and suggestions for reaching a suitable best price.

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

Physically they have flat heads, mounted at an angle, and have two RAVE valves, a picture is worth a thousand words.

None of your selections are 787's, one and two are 951's, three is Mercury powered, and four is twin 717's.

Here is a link to Solas (impeller manufacturer). Probably not a complete list, but pretty close.
(FYI, 720 = 717 and 780 = 787)

Looks like '95-'99 Challengers, & '98-'99 Speedsters are the 787 boats.
