Guys, I still haven't gotten my ski running, mostly due to the fact that I set it on the other side of the driveway and haven't had time to mess with it in a little while. Now, here's my issue: I'm not getting any fuel to the carbs. I know I need to replace my fuel selector valve. It's not all gummed up as I pulled it apart and cleaned it, but it is broken on the top where the knob bolts on, so I can only use the selector with a pair of vice grips. No biggie. To the best of my knowledge, it flows well, as I tested it with a can of carb cleaner and the little straw in the intake fitting. Anyways, past there, I have my the fuel/water separator (filter), which is clean as a whistle. I can suck on the fuel line to the carb, and can build pressure, but haven't sucked too hard, as I don't want a mouth full of gas. Just personal preference there. Here's my big question: My Pulse line from the engine isn't hooked to my carb. There's nowhere to hook it to. The previous owner removed the normal carb sideplate cover that has the inlet for the Pulse line, and put a different blue color plate on it. This is not a flat piece of sheet metal, and has a big curved hump in the center of it, traditionally where the Pulse line would hook up. there's no fitting there. This plate seems to have a marine epoxy holding it to the carb, as it is a translucent, hard sealant with a green tint to it. Now, to the question. Can my ski work, and have fuel pressure without the pulse line hooked up? Is this plate a purposefully added plate to do away with the Pulse line? Does this look right to you?

I don't see anyway you're going to get fuel to the carbs. without the pulse line, I think I would see about getting a set of used carbs. Try PM'ing minnetonka4me or 99spxxx. The other option would be to try to rig up a fuel pump, probably more trouble than it's worth.

Neither one of those carbs has a fuel pump in them. They were designed to use an external fuel pump. (That's why you don't have a pulse line)

So do I just get an external pump and plug the pulse line coming off the engine block, or do I swap out the carb for one that does? The carbs look very clean up close, although they don't look like it in the pics. After looking, it appears as though the gaskets are fairly fresh, indicating a possible recent rebuild. All of the fuel lines are replaced, and everything looks pretty clean in general involving the fuel system. If there was already an external fuel pump, where would I look for it? Would it be an in the tank style pump, or in line? Would the magneto for the current charging system also support the draw of adding on an external electric pump?

The external fuel bump should be close to the carbs and should be on the line between your large filter and the carb after the fuel valve. THe external fuel bump will still require a pulse line to operate so if you find the pump it should connect to the pulse line in the picture. Your engine can not run with the pulse line in the picture open because it will have a huge vacuum leak. I would also be concerned with what looks like silicone sealant on the blue cover in the picture. Silicone should never be used on any carb parts.

Thanks Mikidymac, Sadly, there is no fuel pump/bump in line. Thankfully (maybe or maybe not thankfully) it isn't a silicone sealant, but seems to be an epoxy used to seal the end of the carb. Haven't messed with it too much, but worse comes to worst, I can just replace the carb. Now to make a decision. Is it better to go with the in line fuel pump, or just get the proper carb? Would swapping the blue plate over for the correct end cap with the pulse inlet fix my problem? Or will I have to change some other things around on the carb?

I have an old external pump that's in good shape. PM me if you are interested. ($30 shipped)

Here's the pump. It's regular pulse pump. depending on your carbs... you will either just put it in the feed hose, and hook it to the pulse line on the engine.... or, if both carbs have a restrictor... you will have to feed each carb, and then "Y" the returns.

So how can I tell if both carbs have a restrictor? BTW, sounds good to me. Paypal ok?

Can you tell from pic #3 above?
