Hello, I just got a great deal on a 1997 GTX. 80 hours and looks brand new. Last time it was ran was last summer (I was the one who rode it. My step dad gave me the ski since he did not want to keep up with the maintenance). Last summer it started acting funny and would only idle.

After reading some of the posts here, the first thing I did was replace the stock gray fuel lines. I also cleaned the carbs, changed spark plugs, and put in a new battery. The ski now starts and runs pretty good. Took it out and it would run 56mph and had no problems starting.

Now I am getting the 12 volt warning on the display. I believe this is the rectifier/regulator and I plan to order one.

Also, I cleaned the R.A.V.E. and took off the water flow regulator valve. After I took off the cover of the water flow regulator valve, the thing was in several pieces. I tried putting it back together but it wasn't going to go. How important is this thing and how much do they cost?

Look on eBay... you can find one cheap.

I would put it back on. It helps regulate water to the pipe. Depending on how you would eliminate it... either you will overheat the pipe/muffler, or you won't get peak PRM's if it's too wet.

Have fun with it

Before purchasing the rectifier, start ski, have wife/gf hold throttle so its reading 5500rpm, and get a voltmeter and probe the battery terminals. It should be reading between 13.5-14.5, if your in the 12's or 15's, then yes, order new one.

My ski was running fine but was cavating. I just replaced the wear ring today and took it out. The wear ring really helped the ski to get propulsion.

Now for the new problem. Before replacing the wear ring, on take off, the ski would shoot up to 7k rpm but would not go anywhere of course. Now on take off, the ski starts to go but the rpm will not go past 5k and feels like it is bogging down. I have to hit the throttle over and over for it to "get into the power band" or something and then it will shoot up to 7k rpm and get moving. After it gets going it will do 60mph. The engine itself seems to run great. Starts right up and has good top speed. I'm just having trouble getting out of the hole with full power. Any ideas? Fuel issue?

I checked both spark plugs which are both evenly light brown.

I thought maybe I tightened my impeller to much but it had some play "in and out". But after the ski gets going in the higher rpm it does fine so I dont think that's the problem.

Sounds like you need to turn the low speed screws out 1/4 turn or so.

If lean, it will sorta bog down and you have to pump the throttle to get it going, because it isn't getting enough gas. Once you get it up and the high-speed screws take over it runs fine.

Try that, and see what gives.

Where in Texas and what kind of Ford? And how fast?
