Hello to everyone. Over the winter I took on a big project of rebuilding a 94 Seadoo SPX that had a seized crank. It was my first marine job, but I have been a mechanic for 11 years and have rebuilt car and motorcycle engines. After getting it running and enjoying it, I decided to look at the boats.
I found a great deal on a 97 Sportster. Drove about 2 hours each way, picked it up for $1700 with trailer, skis, cover, bumpers, ropes, about 10 PDF's and some more. It was the original owner and he had every receipt from when he bought it off the lot as a hold over in 98. Dealership put an engine in recently with very low hours on it. It runs great, just takes a bit to hook up and I'm not getting the speed I should, probably about 30ish.
The only question I have is regarding the impeller. The current one has some dings in it, but the wear ring is brand new. The previous owner had it changed the day I bought it because he sucked a rock up. Dealership said the impeller was ok but I can see slight dings and dents on the leading edges. I have purchased a 16/21 swirl for under $100 that has no damage. When I change the impeller, is it necessary to do the wear ring? I know they're usually done together, but seeing as I have ran it once since the new ring was put in, is there a chance I can keep this one?
I'll attach some pictures of how I bought it.
