i have fitted a new steering cable, but i cant seem to get the nozzle and helm to align properly. i have removed the helm and re-centered it. but the cable doesnt seem to have enough adjustment, both the at the helm and nozzle ends.(nozzle about 30 degrees out)

am i missing something? any tricks?

2004 sportster

part# 204390254 CABLE-STEERING

took off the helm etc, checked /adjusted the pivot arm different angles. still not enough adjustment......

i noticed the part # has been changed to 277001765. does anyone know are these parts exactly the same?

The new cable and the replacement cable should be the same length, both the inner cable and the outer jacket. There may not be much adjustment variance if the cables are not the same length, but you might also be able in some instances to adjust the jam nuts on the outer jacket to coarse-tune the adjustment.

thanks for that...
i was going crazy!!! ended up with the outer fully adjust back with the inner fully forward. doesn't make sense but the nozzle is centered!!
for any one else who has to remove the steering cable, i used a 23mm tube spanner for the hull nut, worked a treat.
test run tomorrow morning, rebuilt top end and sc.
