New Speedster Owner/Port Engine Bogging

Hello everyone. We just purchased a 96 speedster with rebuilt engines in '09. The port side engine suffered from bogging and wouldn't rev above 3500-4000 rpm's in the water while underway. I have been scouring the forum for answers and thought I should share what I found. I thought it might be gummed up carbs but I figured I'd check the most obvious first. Pulled the plugs and replaced with new ones. Noticed one of the caps on the old plugs was unscrewed almost all the way.Took it back out on the water and "voila"! Goes like a gang raped ape.
