I have been thinking about getting a boat to play with. I like the idea of the Speedster, so I have spent all day snooping around this site trying to learn as much as possible. Then this evening, I take a look at Craigslist and see the following boat. Tell me if you have any opinions on this boat, any negatives, etc. I do like the fact that it is so cheap, and could just pay cash. This site is great!

Welcome to the seadoo forum Bret. That looks like a good buy. I would make sure it runs a good as it looks. Remember it is still a 1997 and it will still need things as age itself will play a role. Even if it wasn't used. Remember is isn't brand new.

The age concerns me a little. I agree, anything over time will fail, and the older probably the more often. If I paid cash for an older one, I wouldnt mind putting more into maintenance and repairs. I am very particular about maintaining and keeping my stuff looking good, and will probably have trouble finding the perfect used boat. Would probably have to make some compromises. Maybe I should still look at used, but look for something newer. I am thinking that I do not really want a two stroke, and from what I have read I should probably stay away from the Mercury. Is there anything I should really stay clear of in the newer models, say 05s and up? How many hours should I be looking for?

Karl, thanks for all the help!

Just the new technology is much better than the older stuff. The new 4-tec's are incredible. If you buy an older machine remember it will be harder to get back all that you paid for it unless you do improvements. Look around and see what you budget allows. the newer the better, but we all have budgets.
