Hi guys,

Thanks for having me and i apologise in advance for what may seem like very daft questions, but! im eager to learn lots!

I have managed get hold of a twin engine jet boat, yippee! except i know very little about them. I have no manual and im not even sure what year it is (maybe 2000). Im more than happy to sign up to get the manuals, but if someone could point me in the direction of the correct manual it would be much appreciated.

I believe its a Seadoo Challenger bombardier, twin rotax? Im not sure if colour helps, but its purple and green.

I have used it several times, and its been great. However, i went a little shallow and managed to suck up some stones which got wedged in the impellers. I managed to knock them out by removing the rear part of the boat(!). I then gave it a quick run and it was fine, i then used it a week or so later for a short run, maybe 30 mins and it was fine. I then went down recently and was doing 10 knots out of the harbour and was fine, and went to gun it. The boat sort of shook and the revs shot up on the portside engine, but the other was fine. I tried each engine independantly and the portside was definately 'revving up' like a clutch slipping. After some brief reading on this forum, alot of people talk about wear rings etc.

Could anyone give a best guess to this and do you think i could sort this myself?

Thanks in advance for any information :)

Going by the hull number it is an 01. What size boat is it? Got any pics? If the engine is revving and going high RPM, then it is a pump issue. More than likely cavitation from a bad wear ring. Fairly easy fix if you read up here.

I am very new to these jet boat things but what a bunch of fun. I am going to look for a twin after doing just the same thing as you. Have a look at my thread. Will let you know what I find.

Cheers Don.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies!

So i went down to get some pics, and thought while i was there i would whip the pump off to take it home and have a look. When i took it off, there was a nice guage round the wear ring (check the picture). Now what seemed unsual is that after looking around on these forums you guys say the impeller must be removed and the old ring cut out. But while it was all together i gave a quick tug on the ring and it slipped straight out! Why would this happen?
I have attached some pictures, im hoping someone can shed some light on what the exact model is???

Once again, thanks for any assistance.

Same color scheme and decals as my 01 Sportster. Except you have 2 engines and is Challenger. Checking the serial number you posted indicates it is an 01. That year has 2 x (717) 85HP engines in it for a totoal of 170HP.
So to answer your question you have a 2001 Challenger. Nice boat!

Thanks for the information!!

Anyone know why the wear ring would just slide out of the housing without taking the impeller off? Is that normal?

Cheers

Definately NOT normal. It seems like someone cut it to remove it but then just put it back in place. I would be worried about it coming off during use and jamming the impeller, thus causing damage to the driveshaft etc...

mmm.... Thats slightly worrying! The new one just slid straight over the top right in place. I will be installing them saturday so will let you know what happens :) I checked the other one while i was there, and its the same, but its running fine :S

Ok, so i put the pumps back on yesterday and the boats exactly the same :S
Can you switch the pumps over to try to elimate the problem??
