New Impeller is too Tight?

Hi All,

I'm in the process of replacing wear rings, carbon rings, SS rings, impellers on my speedster...

On the first pump I tackled, when I screwed the new impeller in, it gets so tight that it is difficult to turn by hand. I thought this might be something to be concerned about. :(

The impeller is not leaving marks on the wear ring when I turn it and I can't really see it ever touch the wear ring so I doubt it is binding on that.

Is this normal?

Thanks for the reply.

That was just about 10 ft lbs of torque. :(

The one washer that was loose at the back of the pump is in there. The crazy thing is that I put back on the old impeller and it exhibits the same behavior.

Grrr...

Is it a new wear ring too? If so, it will make enough room when it spins a few times. Thats normal.

You are right. I think what happened is I had put them in the freezer so they would go in easier. They weren't cool to the touch but they must still have been a bit smaller in diameter. A couple hours later the problem was gone and everything fit perfectly.

Yay! Sorry the frantic, insane posts!
