New engine question

Well, I can tell you whatever they say, there is no good reason. It isn't done for a reason and should never be done period. They always have to be replaced as a set. That is, unless you are just trying to get the ski running to sell and screw the next unsuspecting owner down the line.

Was the crankshaft rebuilt with all new bearings, seals ( very important) including inner seals and connecting rods?

Well if it doesn’t run correctly or happens to break, he’s replacing it with my warranty. But I got a whole new crankshaft put in. Mine was snapped. & yes everything new. He sent me a picture of my last crank case and it was beat horribly. Had huge dings in it. This was a ski I bought off Facebook, not something I had taken care of. Going to be testing it once I get my alignment tool in

Sounds like a solid plan.

Make sure you premix the first tank of gas at 50:1 along with the oil injection for break-in.

For 2 days to get it back, I think he sent you another engine he had already rebuilt. Not saying it is bad, but it may not be the one you sent him. Standard practice for many rebuild places.
I think he would run the engine after rebuilding it which would need cooling. It is probably empty for shipping, but I would make sure anyway.

I marked my casings with some marks before I sent and they all matched except the one he replaced. I found out that was common tho hence why I marked it Bc I was curious myself.

If it was me I would take that rotary valve cover off and clean it.there is still gasket left and looks like there is shmegma in there.i wouldn't be to concerned about mismatched casses on the 717.as long as the crank spins nice and free and a leakdown was done and good.back in my dealer days according to sea doo remained dept the 580 thru 717 the case halves could be changed with no problem.as far as motor with water in it they are vertical motors and they self drain.the only ones you really need to worry about are the 787 951 they are at an angle and not always drained.
