Yes... seadoo puts a buzzer in on all their toys. The Merc boats have 2 buzzers. One is in the Merc harness ad will give you warning on the oil, water in the fuel... and so on. The Seadoo buzzer is for low voltage, low fuel, and TEMP. BUT.. the quality of the seadoo buzzer is just OK.. and on anything over 10~12 years... you can count on it being dead. I've personally changed it out on EVERY used seadoo I've owned.

That is just exactly the info I was looking for... Thank you very much Tony... I will see if the tech can swap in a new buzzer tomorrow.

BUT... on the Merc engine... there is 2 temp senders in the engine. The port side is fed into the computer, and adjusts things. (even on the 210 carb engine) the one on the starboard head isn't hooked to anything. AND... it happens to be the tan wire up in the helm. (not hooked to anything) You can put a temp gauge in easy. Just get one that is compatible with a Merc outboard... and hook it to that wire.

Sounds like a much more valuable gauge then an hour meter, I will see if they have one in stock and will install it myself. Thanks again!
 
Just to let you know....

The buzzer in question will be mounted into the fiberglass of the helm. The OEM is stupid expensive. (about $60) But, you can get a replacement at RadioShack that will work.. for about $10. I have a thread in the how to section with a part number.


An hour meter is nice to have... but unless you install it after a rebuild, or when the boat is new... it's kind of irrelevant. SO... you are right... a temp gauge will be more useful.
 
Picked the boat on Wednesday, she is starting up really well and running really smooth! The excessive smoke issue has been resolved... Nothing like the right oil, clean carbs and fresh regular 87-octane gas!

The no start issue has been addressed as well, that being said the tech at the marina said that I will need to "learn" how best to start the engine in all conditions. Cold start: turn key to ON and leave it for a second, then start to allow the auto enrichment gravity feed to work it's magic. Hot start: (engine at operating temp) just turn the key to start, no enrichment needed. Warm start is the the real trick, as depending on how much the engine has cooled, the sensor may activate the auto enrichment and cause a flooding condition... So to deal with that, the tech said to use the steering throttle to open the carb throat plates, and miraculously this works extremely well!

The hole shot is really quite good now, however this might be partially due to another adjustment of the extended ride plate! And porpoising is completely gone! The pull to the left is better, but the ride plate needs another adjustment on the left side.

Performance is good, 5500 RPM's and 46 MPH, not exactly what I was hoping for, but the tech said with the compression being a little low, that's about all I can expect... Maybe a rebuild in a year or so will get that up over 50?

Overall I am thrilled with the way it is running and I took great advantage of a fantastic day yesterday, 1st day of my vacation... And I was out on the lake extensively with family and friends. I just want to thank everyone who has chimed in to help out.
