Hey guys I am new to forum here I have read over all the specs on this boat over and over again on the SEA-DOO website but it just made me have some more questions! I will list some questions/Concerns I have below

1. I know the boat has a 21 gallon tank but how long does a tank last per hour with the 155hp motor? I plan on using it for wakeboarding and wake skating on the potomac river.

2. What kind of maintenance should I look to do? This will be my first boat/watercraft I have ever owned so am not sure what all up keep is required to keep this boats lasting a long time. The boat will be taken out of the water after each use and trailored home. So I was wondering if there is a certain cleaning I need to do?

3. What will be my avergae cost to keep my boat running in tip top shape? from basic matienece to winterizing the boat every year?

4. What kind of trailor should I be using for a boat like this? I know the boat only ways 1500lbs so I wasnt sure how heavy duty I should go with a trailor or what kind I should get like aluminum, galvanized etc.

5. Lastly whats the practicality of these boats comapred to others? they seem to be a pretty good price and affordable.

Sorry for all the questions I just want to be 110% sure this is the boat I want to get and this is truely what I want. I just want to try and learn as much as possible before I make my new purchase. Please if there is anything I left out that you think I need to know please fill me in! The more I know going into this the better!

Thanks,
Ryan

Comparison to 2004 Sportster 155hp

Ryan,
I have the 2004 Sportster 155hp, which is essentially the same as the new Speedster 155.

1. The boat is surprisingly good on gas. You should be able to get about 4.5 hours on a full tank.

2. Concerning maintenance, make sure you keep the engine and intake clean. Mine is my first boat/watercraft, and I've never had any problem with the Rotax motor. But then again, I have only had the boat on fresh water. If using in saltwater, clean the hull and all exposed parts immediately after use.

3. Most of my cost is in insurance, licensing, and launch fees. Invest in a boat cover and make sure you fill the gas tank and add fuel stabilizer in the off-season.

4. I have a painted aluminum trailer which is fine for fresh water. You'll want a galvanized trailer if boating in salt water.

5. As far as practicality, the boat seats 4, is great for skiiers and towables, and there's no other 15 foot jet boat that it compares to. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

To me the single biggest issue is finding a reputable SeaDoo boat service facility you have faith in. There aren't many around, so they know they don't have much competition.

Good luck.

Mark,

Are you happy with the performance of the 155HP? I was looking at getting the 215HP, but an independent jet ski mechanic called me and went on and on about how expensive it was to maintain the super charged version.

Thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for. I also know what you mean by finding a dealer you can trust. I called the closet dealer to me (which an hour away) to get a quote for Speedster 150 155hp stripped down model and said it would be 19,500...... MSRP is only 17,599 so what gives? I assumed it worked just liked cars as in that the price is usually 1 or 2 thoussdand less then MSRP?

Ryan,

Bull

I just paid 18,800 for a 255 HP Speedster 150 with wake tower. Your dealer is seriously ripping you off. Check eBay there are plenty of lower prices out there. Just double check to make sure its an authorized Sea Doo dealer (go to their web site, locate dealer by zip)

A 155 HP as a left over 2008 can be had for 14,000, as a left over 2009 for 16,000, new about 17,500.

Oh wow I am getting ripped off! Thanks for the input sir! Now is that price for a new 255 speedster you paid new or used? and what year? Also I know it is a SEA-DOO authorized dealer I asked for a quote straight from the website and that is the dealer that ws closet to me that the SEA-DOO website gave me, but guess I need to call some other dealers! Is there anything you guys recomend that I buy with the boat while im at the dealer and role it all into one loan?

Ryan,

EDIT: here is the dealer website http://www.donskawasaki.com/seadoo.asp

Speedster

18,800 Price is for a 2009 new, left over boat with zero hours and 3 year warranty under the current warranty offer - which you should consider timing-wise, it expires soon. Does not include tax and reg but there was no freight, setup, doc fee, very reasonable dealer Extreme Powersports in Columbus, GA ask for Jason 796 877 8086 - but may not have any more 2009 units.

Jax Motorsports in Jacksonville has also had units good prices, as well as Marina Boat Sales, Lodi CA has left over. Ithana Recreatoin in NY has a left over 2008 but they want 18,000 plus for it. Check eBay.

For 20 grand Id have to consider a Speedster 200, there are 5 of them on eBay right now used.

Dont shy away from shipping, it may be $ 1500 but wrth it if you save enough.
U-Ship can get quotes. on the web

Jim,
Yes, I am satisfied with the performance of the 155HP, and I have not yet experienced the 215 or 255 HP boats. Obviously we would all like more HP, but unless you are mechanically inclined with the Rotax SCIC, I would agree with your jet ski mechanic, who mentioned how expensive it was to maintain the super charged version. Suffice to say it's alot more maintenance than the 155HP, and the supercharger needs to be overhauled every 100 hours. It's your call on whether it's worth it or not.
