I got 1996 seadoo challenger with new skat trak 14.5/22.5.

Took it last week and it ran perfectly but did broke down by not enough of gas or bad fuel filter. So, i replaced the seadoo fuel filter to purlator 20011 with fresh gas, tested it out yesterday. It works perfectly but the engine wasn't sound right...

Here's video of engine running... could not identify the problem.

Thanks

Did you replace the plugs as well? It sounds like it is missing slightly. If you replace the plugs and still have the same, you have the extra set of plugs you should have in your boat anyways!!

Yes, i always bring extra set of plugs. But, yeah i could give it a try again.

It sounds to me that it's over revving, but no quite enough for a run away condition. Was this video taken on the trailer or in the water? You might want to check for an air leak, since you just replaced the fuel filter, check that area first, also the carb. base gasket is a common area for an air leak.

Hi Lou,

Yeah, it was taken in the water. When i started throttle it up, it started get move like 20 mph... tried to increase throttle up half way and that kind of noise came in. Weird! Sure, i will try to find the air leak.

Also, is it normal when i turn engine off, removed spark plugs, could see bit of very slightly smoke? I m not sure where can i find the base gasket?

Thanks

The carburetor base gasket is between the carb. and the intake manifold. It sounds like you're very close to a ran away condition if that happens pull the choke to kill the engine.

Update:::

Took her out for lake test, still same. Even though changed back to original fuel filter... So, I decided to inspect the jet pump and the smell was foul (full of jet pump oil smell)... guess its leaking. So, I will just replace it to old jet oil cone back.

It's pretty difficult for me because I am a Deaf guy here... could not identify the sound or point out air leak.

Ok that makes it bit harder then :) Maybe you could get some seadoo-minded friend to help you out. Spraying on the leaky spot of course raises rpms, as you of course already knew. Don't know if 96 challengers have tachometer, but it might be pretty difficult to spray in the engine bay and keep watching tachometer anyways...

Finn-

Yeah, I will have one friend who will help me to discover the air leak but when? No idea. So, heck w it and i will just go with spray all over and look for the leak.

Glad that my rpm and mph tachometers are working but not for fuel. So, how much should i raise the rpms and have to run it with water hose? Last question- what kind of spray?

You don't have to raise rpms at all, idle is fine. As the spray finds it way to leaking spot engine accelerates as the ether(if using start spray) enters the engine. I wouldn't be spraying too much around just so much to find the leak. There used to be starter sprays, haven't used in ages and don't know what brands you guys have there. I guess any spray that ignites is suitable but don't take my word for it :D
