Newbe here,I have a 1995 sportster. My question is when I press the start button I get a clicking sound.Did some research to find that it could be a few different things, one being my starter solenoid. To check this do I need to press the start button and jump the solenoid at the same time or just jump the solenoid. Thanks

You do not need to push anything, just jump the larger terminal/lugs of the solenoid. It should crank over when doing this.

Make sure there are no gas fumes as a spark WILL be created when jumping the lugs.

Don't replace the starter yet, there are other tests to help determine what the issue is. As I just posted, if yu have not gotten the battery LOAD TESTED, then nothing else matters just yet.

If it is clicking like it is throwing the starter out just not spinning I would see if you can turn the engine by hand. If you can and you know the battery is good and the starter is clicking the next step would be pulling the starter.

If you KNOW the battery is good. Then check the cables and connections. If they are good, pull the plugs and turn over by hand or the starter if it will. If it still doesn't spin, pull the pump as the bearings can seize which would stop the motor from spinning. Turn by hand so the drive shaft doesn't flop around and create damage.

That is what happened, bearing froze inside seal carrier .

Pulled plugs and could turn by hand, just replaced seal carrier and bearings, rubber hose etc.
