I bought an 02 GTI last year, it is my 1st pwc. I did not have any issues last year and it was fun. This year has been a different story. It starts fine and runs good for 1st 10-15 min. but then it starts to bog down and only goes about half speed, less in turns. I can let the trottle to idle and try to take off again and it will start to take off at full power but after 2 seconds its back to half power. If i let it sit for an hour or so i can gat another 10-15 min. of fun out of it but then it is back to half power or less also if i pull the trottle all the way open when it is running good it will instantly bog down. Any movment up or down in the trottle will cause it to bog. I have cleaned the carbs but have not rebuilt them. Cleaning seemed to help at 1st, it ran longer before bogging down. Does this sound like a carb problem? or is it something else? Any help is welcome- Thanks

check your compression remember that metal expand and could be that when it gets how it expands making it to lose a bit of compression. should be around 150 psi

Thanks for the reply. I broke the carbs down and found the problem. One of the gaskets was broke so I replaced it and all is fine. I'll keep the compression in mind if something else comes up.

bogging

Im having the same problem. Which gasket was broken. Ive pulled the carbs4 times now hoping that i got it everytime. Then, i replaced all the fuel lines thinking that they were gummed up with green slime from the lines deteriorating. Still bogging at mid to full throttle. Idles fine and starts fine.

Sorry i don't know the name of the gasket, i broke down the carbs and replaced the broken gasket, the gasket was not hard to get to and was kind of rectangular, also cleaned the carbs. I also replaced the exhaust sealing ring because it was wore out. So far so good. Good Luck with yours.
