Hello Again SDF.....As many of you know I am new and have been having some trouble with my first PWC, but you guys have been a big help and I thank you for it. I have a few(alot) of Questions I need answered if you could please.

My ride: 97 GSX 782, Bone Stock Salt water use only

1: Gray fuel lines Bad? Should replace with........Auto, Motorcycle?

2: Red cap on RAVE valve should be flush with black top?

3: Spark Plug gap is.......?

4: Previous owner said 87 octane is ok? I say 93.

5: Spray WD-40 in the cylinders after riding it?

6: No crank case oil to change?

7: Best oil to use? I hear alot of different options, SeaDoo, Castro, etc,etc

8: How long should I let it run with fresh water after riding it?

Thanks again SDF for all your help,I know these questions are corny, but I searched and didnt find any real answers in the past week or so, being a new PWC owner is kinda Frustrating at times
:cheers::stupid:

Hey scott.

1. Fuel lines replace with fuel injection rated lines, I found Auto Zone has the cheapest. Take one with you to the store to match sizes. Mine had two different sizes, but I'm not sure w/. yours.

2. The manual says to screw the red cap in all the way, but a lot of people here say to make it flush. Either way will be fine. Try it both ways and see which way you like better, will effect performance a little.

3. Spark plug gap is .020 - .024 "

4. Do not use 93 octane. 87 is what you must use.

5. I've read Kustom Karl say he sprays WD-40 on the engine after using it, but I don't think he said to spray them in the cylinders unless it got water logged.

6. No crankcase oil.

7. Use Seadoo XP-S synthetic, it is the best out there. Do not mix different oil types or brands.

8. I have no clue on that one, I'm in Tennessee.

hey scott....#8?...no more than 5 minutes on the hose, the bearings in the pump assy will start to heat up, if not fail. Pump assy bearings gets its cooling from in the water....:cheers:

Gray fuel lines = bad. Change them. Auto or motorcyle does not matter - auto non-fuel injected is cheaper with comparable reliability.

2: Red cap on RAVE valve should be flush with black top?
Yes

3: Spark Plug gap is.......?
.020-.024 in

4: Previous owner said 87 octane is ok? I say 93.
For a carb 2-stroke, 87 is fine. 93 is throwing money away.

5: Spray WD-40 in the cylinders after riding it?
Yes, and virtually everything else such as pump/venturi, nuts/bolts, linkages, hinges.

6: No crank case oil to change?
Nope - 2 stroke does it by itself with oil injection found in these Seadoos or premix if you have converted to that.

7: Best oil to use? I hear alot of different options, SeaDoo, Castro, etc,etc
Stick with Seadoo/BRP oil - synthetic XPS in your case.

8: How long should I let it run with fresh water after riding it?
Use Salt Away or other salt remover to flush it until the foamy stuff comes out of the side tell-tale port and the exhaust at the rear. Takes less than 5 minutes.

Yep. Get used to the ups and downs.:cheers:

Once again Thank You SDF, I post this thread, go to bed and wake up with answers. I thought 87 should be ok since it has low compression (6:1)but I wasnt sure, I raced MX before and I knew that our bikes had crank case oil for the bottom end even though they were 2 stroke as well, but I wasnt sure if this was the same? The rave valve on the EX tank? in the back left corner opposite of the Exh exit, should I adjust that one as well????

Scott, here is information on the Water Flow Regulator Valve( located on the resonator of the exhaust);
The water flow regulator has been calibrated at the factory and should not be tampered with or modified in any way.
CAUTION: Strictly adhere to the calibration procedure or otherwise serious engine damage will occur.
If engine does not maintain RPM or the engine is experiencing poor performance, the water flow regulator valve might be out of adjustment. The normal adjustment as done at the factory is as follows: On the top of the water flow regulator valve locate the red plastic adjustment screw. Mark the location of the screw with a dab of paint for reference. Turn the screw clockwise (tighten) until the top edge of the screw is flush with the top of the black cap. Turn the screw 2 clicks counterclockwise (loosen). This is the factory spring setting. The bottom tapered screw should be screwed in just snug.

This Regulator valve plays an important part in cooling the engine. Each fitting is a special size and controls the flow of water to the different part of the engine depending on the rpm. Never mix up the fittings or you'll have problems with over heating and maybe seizure.

Here is information on running your seadooon the hose...remember the proceedure so as not to flood your engine with water;

Hook up the hose to the seadoo and have it run for up to 5 minutes. Connect the hose and start the seadoo. Turn on the water after it is started. Turn off the water, than shut down the seadoo. This way it won't allow water to back flow into the engine through the exhaust due to no back pressure from the engine not running. The bearings and seals on the impeller jet pump are cooled from being in the water. When it is on the trailer it doesn't have that cooling effect so they will get hot after about 5 minutes.
I pre start my seadoo's too, dry before I leave for the launch too. Just for a second or 2 to be sure it will start at launch. Peace of mind is worth lot.

I hope this helps.

Thanks again, I was just reading all these threads about the Rave valves and thought I could get a little extra Umph out of her, But if its running fine, they dont adjust them?

BTW.... I have no "fittings" for the engine, I just hooked up the hose in the back and let her go, is there fittings I should have?

You can go to Home Depot in the garden center, and buy a fitting that screws in the connection the hose screws into and a mating fitting that is a quick connect to fit into it ...cost like $3.00. At seadoo it cost like $10.00.
