Pulled the jet pump today to replace the wear ring and inspect the impeller. Photos attached. Can I sand/file the impeller down?

I would say it's marginal, I know that sounds like a cop out, you could try a dremel and smooth out the edges, grind them so they are sharp. The clearance of the wear ring looks excessive. Do you know if the wear ring is aftermarket or is the black rubber from the OEM just gone and we're looking at the fiberglass backing?

Personally if it were mine I would replace the wear ring and impeller, Solas is having a sale you should be able to get a new high performance impeller for around $200.00 or less. Use an OEM wear ring. But I don't want to tell you how to spend your money.

If you want to try filing down or dremel the impeller, check the balance of the impeller after you finish. You can get a balancer at the hardware store, they are made for balancing lawn mower blades.

That looks pretty rough to get it decent yourself. You can send it off to SBT to swap with one that has been refurbished for $60.

The black rubber from the wear ring is gone...it was in there but when I pulled the pump it just fell right out. It was chewed up pretty bad.

Which tool should I use on the dremel? Just the round sandpaper one?

Regarding my 'neoprene seal'. The film http://fiche.worldofpowersports.com/wps/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=seadoojb&A=83&B=13 shows part # 293200051 which looks like http://www.parkeryamaha.com/ProductImages/pwc/293200051.jpg Is that ring all I need? The other neoprene seals I've seen look flat, where as this one is rather thick and ribbed. I have the original one that came off the boat, its in good shape. It's not really neoprene...more like pliable plastic.

Sand paper ain't gonna touch it, it's made from hardened stainless steel, probably gonna need the abrasive wheel. Rich's idea with a refurb is a better idea.

aftermarket or refurb on the impeller that baby is pretty chewed. I would get an aftermarket since they are better than OEM. OEM wear ring is like $50 or so. The neoprene seal is only few dollars that is cheapest of the whole job. You would be looking around $300 to do with with a new impeller and OEM parts. At least you only have 1 pump. I have to get 2 new impellers for mine.
