i have a 96 gti and the speedometer nor does the gas gauge work. when i put the key on it beeps and the ski runs flawlessly. if it is a fuse how do you open the fuse block and will i mess anything up if i open it

Check the spedo sensor on the rear of the doo. Use a multi meter and there might be 3 wires coming off the sensor. Use 2 of the 3 wires to check resistance to see if the sensor is bad. I didn't look up the color code just connect the probes to 2 of the 3 and spin it. For the fuel guage again use a ohm setting on a multi meter. Check the pink and pink/black wire from the baffle at the fuel tank. It should show resistance based on how much fuel is in the tank. If not, the magnets either are dirty of they fell off and are in the tank bottom. If this is the case pull the baffle out and check the magnets. Let us know how you make out.

I had the same problem on my 97 gti a few weeks ago. The problem with mine was corrosion on the mepm. Unplug the mepm, get your flashlight and look real close at the terminals. Mine were just a little corroded and that caused my fuel problem. The speedometer was the sensor on the back. let me know if that fixes it

Mpem......

The mpem should be located in a black, water resistance box in the engine compartment of the ski.

The fuses to the gages, speedo, gas gage, etc........is usually located up front under the storage box. Lift your front cover to the storage compartment. See if that compartment will lift out of the ski. If so, you'll see another fuse box there for your accessories.

Not sure if your model is set up like that. It's hard looking at the electrical drawings to determine where that accessory fuse panel is.
