Got a new mpem for my '92 sp,the new mpem has 8 wires and the old mpem has 9,I went from 278000200 to 278000070,any tips on what to do.

I don't suppose you bought that off of an internet site did ya?
I just ordered one for MY 92' SP over the weekend.
Did it not have a wiring diagram at all?
Hoping we can resolve this here.

In addition

I also posted an E-MAIL to (1) of the internet sites selling this item regarding your issue.
As I had placed my order for the same modual.
I will be checking my manual this evening for the wiring diagram &
also checking the # of leads on my origional MPEM also.
I'll let you know what the manual wire code/callouts are.

I will be checking for his response regarding this.

wiring issue

Well,...upon inspection of my 92' SP I found 9-wires coming out also.
I have not recieved a response from one of the "aftermarket" MPEM suppliers regarding this, at this time. But if I hear of a resolve, I'll post it.
In the meantime, here is the wiring code from my manual.
Hope it helps.

(Outputs from Origional MPEM)
Blk/Red = (To) MPEM/Engine speed Rev limiter
Blk/White= (To)Solenoid
Blk/yellow= (To)Stop Switch/Teather Cord Switch
Yellow/Red=(To) Solenoid
Purple= Buzzer (To) overheat alarm
Red/White=(To) 5amp Fuse Holder (to) Battery+
Red=(To) 15amp Fuse Holder (to) Battery+
Red= (To) Rectifier (Clear Yellow Encased Modual)
Blk/Red= (To) CDI Module (Engine Coil)

You more than likely will need the correct MPEM as you just can't usually bypass the harness of the mpem to work. You need the exact amount of wires to plug it in. Can you return it an get the correct one?

After contact with a source for that item...

Apparently, the original mpem (which has (2) red wires with inline fuses) go to (1) ring terminal.
The replacement MPEM has only (1) red ring terminal wire and the fuse is now located in the module.
So I assume that (1) Red wire just has been eliminated by design.

Does this help?
