Ive got the MPEM open.. Its really not that difficult. I need to expose the diode now. I will order the diode. Im Psyched to try this.. psyched to get this ski back into the water.

Thanks

Oh.. here is a link to order the diode:

http://www.cpcares.com

Just put the diode in the search window in the upper right corner

mpem repair

glad to hear you found a place to buy the diodes, its a very simple operation to install back the new diode, remember to fill the holes with silicon sealant ,when you start your machine you will be back in the water agian ,and remember never boost your battery inside the machine, and dont overlimit your machine if you jump a wave ,this can be a main trigger to agian install another diode in the future att willito:hurray:

diode problem?

Hey all, I'm not quite sure if I have the same problem as above or not. Same stupid mistake of trying to jump a 1997 gti with a car. New battery in reading 12.4 v, seadoo acting like no battery is in at all, but can't seem to find any blown fuses. Can it be the diode if I'm not getting any blown fuses?

You NEVER use jumper from a running tractor/car/truck or this mpem get overloaded, turn off the car or remove the red wire to restore the battery strength, battery charger is also off limits, there are stickers around the hull to warn you not to kill your 600bux electronic box.

mpem?

Thanks, but I realize that now and it's too late! I'm not popping the 5A fuse like everyone else, is it the diode in the mpem even if the amp isn't burning out?

96 seadoo speedster mpem repair

Does anyone know where the diod is located on the 96 speedster? Mpem 5 amp fuse keeps popping.

This is where the diode is on my 1999 GTI. I wonder if all have their diode next to the fuses like this MPEM.

I have learned alot about this thing trying to fix my MPEM (brain).

The diode reduces the electricity down to its working voltage. When you jump start a jetski the amount of electricity you boost into the system blows up the diode. The diode protects the rest of the briain from becoming fried.

Diodes are meant to flow one way. On the diode you will see a line with an arrow pointing to it. That is the direction of flow. When you remove the diode take note which way it was pointing.

To test your diode take a multimeter and set it to test continuity. The diode should NOT have continuity. Before I took my diode off I tested it and sure enough my multimeter beeped meaning continuity. I replaced the diode and tested.. no continuity (I Actually did a continuity test on the diode before I put it on the board and sure enough.. no continuity. )

I am going to hook up my MPEM to the ski today to see if my work paid off. Many others have done this fix with success. I am confident that it will wok..

Purchasing the diode: The diode is a Motorola MR2535L I went through a company online that sells the doide for $4 dollars and some change. I purchased 2 because the shipping for one was $9. My diode cost was $19 total... a lot less than $200 for a used MPEM or $500+ for a new one. A backup is always good.

Removing the diode: I took a soldering gun and carefully loosened the solder on both sides of the board where the diode is connected. I then gently with a needle nose pliers pulled the diode out.

The whole job is not that hard. Hardest part is finding the diode and removing all that protective covering maiking sure you dont ruin the board the diode is attached to. Just go slow.

Good luck

removing black electrical potting

I used a heat gun on it it works fast and won't damage the board or components. I replaced the diode and no more blown 5 amp fuse , to top it off the speedster works now.

my pwc is running good

just wanted to say thanks for all the suport my mpem after the diode operacion is running like new agian ,thanks to all att willito

Found it

1998 gts, 720cc motor, mpem #278000189 / 278000418

From the pic, i went to town, but finally found it. Located under the 15amp fuse holder....now gonna order that diode, see if alls well

i got a 99 gts 717 . i bought a new box for it cause fuse was blowing. my question is .. is when i installed the new one and put the key in that all it did was make a little noise and want start. does the key have to be reprogrammed or something. it does not bep like it was doing

I just did this fix on one of my 97' GTI's didnt bother trying the remove the plastic cover.. i had seen where a previous owner had already done this to the other ski (matching set) and didnt so neather did i. I just went right through the plastic with a burr bit and a dremal and had it going in about 30min and it worked like a champ. For you guys buying these new MPEMS your crazy go buy an exacto knife a $5 soldering tool and a diode.. problem solved

Does any one know where the diode is on a 96 GSX? I have taken the mpem out and been digging around in there but where the fuse is all around that area is like a jelliton or something like that and is dark and cant see through. so please if any one know please let me know. Thanks Mike
