Hey guys,
Just finished the maintenance on one of our skis and ran into a problem when I took it out on the water today. I replaced oil, pump bearing grease(4tec), and the plugs. I ran it on the lift with the hose connected and to test it out for about 15 minutes. I then lowered it into the water and idled it around and proceeded to increase throttle. After about 5 minutes, I got it up to about 20mph, still no problem. When I was ready to have some fun, the second it got on plane, the motor made a LOUD whining sound and I suddenly lost all acceleration. I killed the motor and swam it back to the house). I got it on the lift and started it again to listen to it out of the water, it idles about normal but that sound is still there. Any suggestions? I plan on taking her out tomorrow and taking her to the dealer to have checked out. Just curious what I could have done.
Thanks guys
Joseph

Joseph, for one thing you should never run your 4-tec seadoo with interlooping cooling for more than 2 minutes on the hose. The drive seal on the jet pump isn't being cooled because it only gets cooled by the water it is in. The only thing the hose does is purge the exhaust and flush it out. I bet you cooked the bearing in the drive seal, on the jet pump.

I may of overestimated when I said 15 but it was more than 2 no doubt....damn are those hard to replace? She is coming out today.

I called my buddy at the dealer...his first impressions were blown supercharger...I am taking her out of the water when I get home from work....
I guess you gotta pay to play

Let us know how you make out. The whinning coud be the Super Charger too. In the future remember to not run it too long out of the water.

It's good to have friends that work at a seadoo dealer. :)
