So, like so many others, I had a visit from the 3500 rpm max monster on my boat a little while back.

I was going to pull the carbs and rebuild/clean them - and also get rid of the grey hoses just for good measure. I was talking to a buddy about my fuel woes and he asked if I changed the in-line filters - too which I smucked myself upside the head and said no.

So, I stuck my head in the engine compartment to see what kind of filters and things I needed, but then noticed that there was liquid in the engine compartment on the suspect engine side. I wasn't entirely sure if it was water or fuel - but my gut instinct tells me it is fuel since the boat hasn't been used in the last 3 weeks - so am thinking fuel leak - but the question is .........

Would it be leaking from the carbs or maybe just a fuel line. I suppose it could be a fuel line - but wanted to check and see if it were possible for a carb to leak fuel and where.

thanks!

Your gut needs to see if it's water or gas. My gut is telling me water, especially if you park it outside and it has rained.

If it is fuel there should be strong odour of fuel. Is your drain plug open? Drain the water / fuel into a bucket and see if it smells like fuel when you move it away from the boat.
