Missing parts ok?

Working on my new to me 1998 Seadoo speedster's drive shaft. I'm missing 204120130 and 204120118 or parts #17 and #14 as seen here. http://fiche.seadoowarehouse.com/seadooforums/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=seadoojb&a=171&b=11&c=0&d=-DRIVE-SYSTEM

They both look like plastic parts designed to prevent anything from getting caught in the drive shaft/flywheel. I'm not planning on being anywhere near there when the thing is running, but just wanted to make sure I'm ok to just go without these two parts.

14 is specific to which side you get, it's notched to fit so if you get one from a ski you will need to notch it.

17, forget it. Rip what's left of yours out. If you get a ski rope wrapped around it it's going to break anyway.

Right, there are a bunch of threads out there about how 17 is unneccissary. I can go without 14 just fine can't I?

without 14 you may have a mess in your hull from PTO grease getting sprayed around
