Marine Lights On Da 93 Doo

I was wondering, does a 93 Doo have a generator or alternator? if neither, how does the battery stay charged?

If there is no charging system, then, that may be the reason I must tricke charge?

Moving on, every night I get envious of boat riders when I see them cruising across the river. I then wonder, if I put some Marine lights on the Doo, then, I could do the same; cruise down to the Blue Water Casino from my trailer iat the Wind Mill.

If I install some Marine lights, they will need power to operate them, thus, my reason for this thread. Will I need another type of battery if my Doo battery does not have an alternator, generator or other type of charging system?

One last question! OIL. My Doo has the 587 engine which has been running since I purchased it fifteen years ago on Chevron TCW-3 oil, a couple bucks a quart in stark contrast to Sea Doo's blend.

I've never had a problem in 15 years. Maybe the 587 engine was not a racing engine, thus, the reason I've never encounterd engine over-heat problems as do the 78 and problem infested 951 engines. Everything I've read about the 951's is that they are unreliable.

Some thoughts for a Saturday morning before I head out to the swap meet to find a fuel gauge tester to complete my carb projects.

Hoppefully, this thread will fill up with replies by the time I return. You'al hear me, TimmyBoy?

i don't know enough about ski's to answer all your questions, but i know they don't have alternator or generators.

to keep it charged get a battery tender, or charge it after every ride with a battery charger.

Hey Joe...as for charg'n system, you have whats called a "rectifier", in which charges the battery while operating the ski. So for lights, depending on the "draw", if LED, then should be ok, but not sure as to the power the lights will need, and inturn, the power the stators' put'n out, if it'll overcome the battery.

For the oil, Snipe "has" convinced me, that the rotax is/should be ran with either mineral or synthetic, of the API-TC oil, not the TC-W3. But since your ski has gone this long with it, lack of better terms, have been accustomed to it? But, by no means, am i say,n to change or stick with what your run'n. Always thought, oil is oil, and to which type...premix or injection. Never thought about the "type"

The charging system on a Sea-Doo is called a magneto that works kinda like an alternator as it produces AC current (generators produce DC current). The rectifier (also called voltage regulator) does not charge anything. The rectifier changes the current from AC to DC.

For anyone who is interetsted in hooking up navigation lights to their PWC's, please be advised that even if navi lights are installed on a PWC, CA law proscribes operation of a PWC from sunset to sunrise. I should have known that being a former LEO.

actually i think that applies to all states...or at least Florida.

In alabama the law is "STRONGLY RECCOMENDED that you operate in daylight hours, within 30 min of sunset. However, if operated at night it must have the proper navigation lights." straight from my boaters exam handbook.
