Major engine damage?

I was winterizing my '95 Challenger and ran into what could be a major problem or maybe not. With both hoses that join the engine to the exhaust disconnected when I pour antifreeze into the 'flushing fitting' some antifreeze still runs out of the exhaust. So the question is: is there a coolant passage between the engine and the exhaust besides the two hoses?

Yep, it's an open system, sounds normal. Moving this to the 2-stroke boat section.

I assume this is a single engine 787 powered boat, since you didn't put 1800 in your watercraft list. If so you need to pinch lines to make sure you get antifreeze into the entire system, just letting it "flow" isn't gonna cut it.

Here is the one I did from my 99 Speedster (twin 787's) and the procedure is CLOSE to the same. Where I have expansion plug you would need to pinch your line INSIDE you engine compartment.

Or the one I did for my 96XP (single 787) would also work, again you need to pinch a few lines to do it correctly.

Thanks for the re-assurance Lou. So the engine water jacket extends into the cast exhaust pipes? I'm surprised because there are the two water hoses from the engine to the exhaust.

On the challenger .there is also a1/4" line from the clynders port side all the way to the exhaust pipe right at the transom.

Thanks Danosll

This is in addition to the two half inch lines and the small line to the regulator? I haven't seen it but maybe it is kind of hidden by the exhaust. The boat is at the storage place now but I will take a look next time I'm there.

IMG_20140930_093157.jpg yes it is well hidden goes from lower cyls to a tee then under tuned pipe, water box. Then right to exhaust tip at transom

Thanks again Danosll. That drawing explains everything. Whew! Thought I was looking at a replacement engine.

Pm me your email address and I will send you a copy of the owners manual. It explains cooling lines very clearly.
